Laboratory Evaluation Of Internal And External Nutrient Removal To Control Algal Bloom In Eutrophic Lakes, Sepideh Sadeghi
Laboratory Evaluation Of Internal And External Nutrient Removal To Control Algal Bloom In Eutrophic Lakes, Sepideh Sadeghi
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Eutrophication is one of the most widespread water quality problems in lakes and reservoirs. Frequent cyanobacterial blooms resulting from eutrophication can greatly damage aquatic ecosystems and pose a high risk to human health. Phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N) are the major causes for eutrophic conditions and can enter to the aquatic ecosystem via different sources. The combination of phosphorus precipitation and sediment capping are promising technologies to minimize internal P loading and control harmful algal blooms in eutrophic lakes. Denitrification bioreactors have emerged as an important edge-of-field treatment technology to reduce nitrate-nitrogen loads from external sources. The objective of this …
Compaction Testing Of Granular Material, Jason Jerome Weber
Compaction Testing Of Granular Material, Jason Jerome Weber
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The South Dakota Department of Transportation SDDOT uses the Ohio Highway Department’s Typical Moisture Density Curves for preforming compaction quality control on granular soil materials in junction with standard moisture density relations. The SDDOT also uses the Nuclear Density Gauge NDG, Sand Cone, and Rubber Balloon methods to conduct in-situ density tests. Compaction quality control of recycled pavements is conducted using test strips. The test strip method works well for large areas but becomes problematic for small areas. The ODOT Materials Manual states “Moisture-Density proctor curves and controls were originally developed to be used on cohesive (clays and silts) soils. …
Evaluation Of The Effect Of Tack Coat Type, Application Rate, And Surface Type On Interlayer Shear Strength, Chamika Prashan Dharmarathna
Evaluation Of The Effect Of Tack Coat Type, Application Rate, And Surface Type On Interlayer Shear Strength, Chamika Prashan Dharmarathna
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Tack coat is an asphaltic material applied between asphalt pavement layers. Since pavement is a multilayered structure, it is highly important to make proper bond between the layers to achieve a monolithic behavior. Hence, inadequate bond due to application of inadequate amount of tack coat may lead to poor structural behavior and premature failure. Also, applying excessive amount of tack coat may lead to layer slippage and binder migration. Therefore, it is highly important to apply an optimum amount of tack coat between layers. Over the past decades several studies have been conducted to determine the optimum tack coat application …
Integrity Assessment Of Earthen Dams And Levees Using Cross-Plot Analysis Of Seismic Refraction And Electrical Resistivity Tomograms, Leti Teklu Wodajo
Integrity Assessment Of Earthen Dams And Levees Using Cross-Plot Analysis Of Seismic Refraction And Electrical Resistivity Tomograms, Leti Teklu Wodajo
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Geophysical methods provide a rapid, economical, non-invasive, and spatial coverage of the subsurface in terms of geophysical properties. On the other hand, geophysical methods can generate multiple geophysical anomalies. An anomaly on a seismic refraction or an electrical resistivity tomogram is an area that has different values compared to its surrounding. Geophysical anomalies in dams and levees can be due to the overall heterogeneity of the subsurface, structures such as principal spillways, artifacts of inversion software, or to a true compromised location, such as an air void due to internal erosion or seepage. Therefore, there is uncertainty involved with using …
Building Information Modeling (Bim) Impact On Construction Performance, David D. John
Building Information Modeling (Bim) Impact On Construction Performance, David D. John
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study is designed to address the need for having a measure for Construction Performance on BIM-assisted construction projects. Through this study a new Construction Key Performance Indicator (CKPI) matrix is identified and created by the author. The CKPI could be used to assess BIM-assisted projects. Utilizing a sequential mixed methodology approach, academic and practitioner perspectives are assessed. A qualitative content analysis and quantitative descriptive analysis based on demographics are conducted to establish a better understanding of BIM and Construction Performance. The academic perspective is used to assess the relevance of BIMM and CKPI indicators, and the practitioner perspective is …
Designing And Testing 3-D Printed Wafer-Box With Embedded Pzt Sensors To Identify The Shape Effect On Energy Harvesting, Ahmad Jami Safayet
Designing And Testing 3-D Printed Wafer-Box With Embedded Pzt Sensors To Identify The Shape Effect On Energy Harvesting, Ahmad Jami Safayet
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Piezoelectric energy has been recently paid attention in the field of alternative energy. Day by day the traditional energy sources including Coal tar and oils are becoming scarce. People are heading to an alternative energy source to meet the future energy demand. Piezoelectric energy is one of the competitive energy sources compared to the conventional renewable energy sources including solar, wind, and geothermal power and so on. This energy production method bears enormous research potential because it can be used as the roadway for a new method of power generation. This research project aimed to identify which shaped wafer-box produced …
