Engineering And Geological Work At Cananea, Mexico, Edward Dale Lynton

Professional Degree Theses

"The purpose of this thesis is to relate in as clear and concise a manner as possible the way "things are done" in practice as observed by myself during my two years' experience as sampler and assistant geologist to the Cananea Consolidated copper Co. of Cananea, Sonora, Mexico. An Investigation In Treating A Gold Ore From Custer, South Dakota, Theodore Saunders Dunn Jan 1915

An Investigation In Treating A Gold Ore From Custer, South Dakota, Theodore Saunders Dunn

Professional Degree Theses

"The following investigation was undertaken to determine the adaptibility [sic] to amalgamation and cyanidation of a certain ore from the property of Mr. Charles Bush near Custer, South Dakota. A preliminary sample of the ore was obtained and laboratory tests made upon it. A ton lot of the ore was then put through the ore dressing laboratory at the South Dakota School of Mines. Upon examination the large sample was found to differ in value and to some extent in character from the preliminary sample, but the scheme of treatment worked out for the first sample was found to work …

The Relation Of The Composition Of Petroleum To Its Origin And Occurrence, John Warder Shotwell

Bachelors Theses

"Petroleum Is a mixture of hydrocarbons. It is a liquid varying from colorless, through yellow and brown to black. It varies from 1.0 to 0.80 in specific gravity, which corresponds to 10° to 45° Beaume. Bituminous Coal Mining In Northern Missouri, True Walter Blake Jan 1914

Bituminous Coal Mining In Northern Missouri, True Walter Blake

Professional Degree Theses

"Missouri was the first state west of the Mississippi to produce a commercial output of coal and, although in later years some of the western states have produced a larger yield, still the Missouri mines bid air to hold their present standing as there are hundreds of acres of virgin coal land in this state that will be able to be worked profitably after the eastern coal operators have worked out their thicker veins of coal. The coal is won from the grasp of Mother Earth by either room-and-pillar or longwall systems in the larger mines, each method being employed …

Mining Methods And Geology Of The Boston Consolidated Mine At Bingham, Utah, James Leonidas Boucher

Bachelors Theses

"This thesis does not so much attempt a detailed report on the geology of the disseminates ores of Bingham Canyon as a more particular description of the underground methods of mining these ores as well as studies in drilling, sampling, etc. Steam shovel mining was studied to some extent but almost all the data for the following pages has been derived from the Boston Consolidated Underground Mine and the Old Utah Mine. The Boston consolidated, especially, has been studied for this mine is the largest and, at late date, was the only underground porphyry mine working, the Old Utah having …

A Comparison Of Crushing Machines, Clyde Willis Hall, Walter Henry Wager Jan 1914

A Comparison Of Crushing Machines, Clyde Willis Hall, Walter Henry Wager

Bachelors Theses

"Much has been written on the comparative efficiency of the various sorts of crushing machines used in the art of Ore Dressing, but it must be confessed that the subject has by no means been reduced to one of the exact sciences as yet. This is rather a sad condition of affairs, for as is of course apparent to the most casual observer, the whole fabric of ore dressing rests and depends to a large degree on the efficiency and economy of the crushing machinery. Inefficient crushing means high costs, irrespective of the thoroughness and cheapness with which the ensuing …

Leaching Copper Tailings, Howard Gove Halsey, Frederick Gallaway Moses Jan 1914

Leaching Copper Tailings, Howard Gove Halsey, Frederick Gallaway Moses

Bachelors Theses

"There are, scattered throughout the country, enormous amounts of rock that, by the discovery of a quick, cheap, and practiable sic method of extracting their metallic content could be turned into valuable ores. This has already been accomplished for gold and silver by the adaption of the cyanide method to their treatment. The next in order, both because of the value of the metal and the amount of material available in mill dumps and in the ground, is copper. there are dumps containing millions of tons of this material lying idle because of the fact that with the present methods …

Flotation Applied To Joplin Sludge, Thaddeus C. Wilson, Gustaf Axel Hellstrand

Bachelors Theses

"The sludge (fine material) which daily is being sent to the tailing dump by the Joplin mills contains values in lead and zinc often in excess, as to percentage, of that of the crude ore. At present no attempt is being made to treat this It is at this point that it is proposed to introduce some flotation process to supplement the ordinary scheme of wet concentration. With this end in view we have conducted a series of experiments in the flotation of a Joplin sludge"--page 2-3.
