A Comparison Of Three And Two-Dimensional Analyses Of Rockfill Dams In Narrow Valleys (A Case Study: The Vanyar Dam), Mehdi Derakhshandi, Mojtaba Honarmand, Amir Hossein Sadeghpour
A Comparison Of Three And Two-Dimensional Analyses Of Rockfill Dams In Narrow Valleys (A Case Study: The Vanyar Dam), Mehdi Derakhshandi, Mojtaba Honarmand, Amir Hossein Sadeghpour
International Conference on Case Histories in Geotechnical Engineering
A two-dimensional analysis of the largest cross-section of earth dams may generate appropriate results provided that the dam is located in a U-shape valley. The Vanyar dam has been constructed in a narrow valley. With regard to the geometrical consideration of the valley, there is no plane strain condition throughout the long side of the dam. In this research, the results of three and two dimensional numerical analyses of the Vanyar dam are compared in terms of settlement, pore water pressure, and total vertical stress. These analyses were carried out by a finite difference method through FLAC-3D and FLAC-2D softwares. …
A Non-Linear Method To Estimate Elastic Settlement Of Shallow Foundations Using Small-Strain Stiffness, Reza Amini Ahidashti, Abdolhosain Hadad
A Non-Linear Method To Estimate Elastic Settlement Of Shallow Foundations Using Small-Strain Stiffness, Reza Amini Ahidashti, Abdolhosain Hadad
International Conference on Case Histories in Geotechnical Engineering
In this paper, we investigated how to utilize the small-strain stiffness order to estimate the settlement of shallow foundation on granular soils. For this purpose, a power law equation between normalized shear modulus and shear strain was presented. Based on elasticity theory and proposed equation, a new method in term of small-strain stiffness was suggested order to estimate the immediate settlement. In order to evaluate the proposed method, a series case history was studied, that included the loading tests and seismic geophysical tests. These field measurements are compared to the predicted values. The result indicated that the proposed method in …

The State of Bihar, India experienced substantial flooding in the Ganges Basin as a result of levee (embankment) non performance. As a result of the 2008 failures the Bihar Water Resources Department is examining, as a programmatic model, the US experience in establishing and conducting the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Levee Safety Program. This case model examination is intended to structure a new program for managing the Bihari embankment infrastructure. Similar to many historical flood control initiatives throughout the world, India’s embankment infrastructure shows the effects of aging and multi-purpose use of the facilities. To examine what …
