A Plane Coordinate System For Bernalillo County, Karl V. Morin May 1953

A Plane Coordinate System For Bernalillo County, Karl V. Morin

Civil Engineering ETDs

The first purpose of this thesis is to frame an enabling act that could be submitted to legislature for adoption. Such an act would authorize the use of plane coordinate system, but not make it mandatory. Twenty-four states have passed laws establishing state coordinate systems.

A second purpose of this thesis is to provide practicing engineers with all the necessary information and explanatory material in one manuscript to permit them to apply the system to their work. An example is worked out in detail using local points known to local men and fully explained step by step.

In addition to …

A Historical Study Of Flood Prior To 1892 In The Rio Grande Watershed, New Mexico, Rufus H. Carter May 1953

A Historical Study Of Flood Prior To 1892 In The Rio Grande Watershed, New Mexico, Rufus H. Carter

Civil Engineering ETDs

The purpose of this study is twofold: first, to collect as much recorded data as possible on the floods in the Rio Grande watershed in New Mexico prior to 1892, and second, to summarize that data with particular reference to hydrologic and economic facts that appear in the record.

An Investigation Of The Water Supply Of The Laramie River Basin And Its Utilization, Omer D. Hall May 1953

An Investigation Of The Water Supply Of The Laramie River Basin And Its Utilization, Omer D. Hall

Civil Engineering ETDs

Many plans have been proposed during the last quarter century for increasing the water supply available to the Laramie River Basin. It is the purpose of this thesis to consider physically possible plans for increasing the available water and to estimate the amount of this increase. The lining of canals on the Wheatland project is suggested and studied in detail.

A Proposed Traffic Interchange For The City Of El Paso, Paul C. Hassler May 1953

A Proposed Traffic Interchange For The City Of El Paso, Paul C. Hassler

Civil Engineering ETDs

This survey was conducted at the request of the Traffic Division of the El Paso Police Department for the purpose of improving the supervision and administration of the department. The main conclusions, in addition to the recommendation of certain changes and expansions of the Police Department, was that the city hire a traffic engineer to unsnarl its traffic problems. At this writing preliminary steps have been taken in both directions by the commission.

An Experimental Method Of Predicting Strength Variations In Portland Cement, James H. Sprouse Jr. May 1953

An Experimental Method Of Predicting Strength Variations In Portland Cement, James H. Sprouse Jr.

Civil Engineering ETDs

It was the purpose of this study (1) to show the variations that may be expected in the strength characteristics of different shipments of Portland cement of the same brand from the same cement mill; (2) to show the variations in the strength characteristics of different brands of cement; and (3) to develop an accelerated strength test for Portland cement upon which the strength of the concrete made from the cement could be predicted.

Some Applications Of Geology To Civil Engineering With Special References To New Mexico And The Southwest, Eldred Ray Harrington May 1952

Some Applications Of Geology To Civil Engineering With Special References To New Mexico And The Southwest, Eldred Ray Harrington

Civil Engineering ETDs

Civil Engineers are usually specialists in some branch of the great field. They often get so deep into the forest that nearby trees effectively obscure the forest as a whole. The same is true of the specialists in the numerous branches of the field of geology. The writer has a certain advantage in this study. Not only has he had approximately equal training in both fields but he has lived almost thirty years as an observer outside the "forest", taking occasional excursions into the thickets of the fields but never staying so long in any one of them that he …

Methods Of Routing Floods Through Reservoirs, Rowland W. Fife Feb 1952

Methods Of Routing Floods Through Reservoirs, Rowland W. Fife

Civil Engineering ETDs

Flood routing through reservoirs serves several major functions. It makes possible the determination of the effect of a reservoir, whether constructed for flood control purposes alone or for other purposes, on historic or predicated future floods at the reservoir site. The effect at the dam site then provides a basis for calculating the effect downstream. It also aids in obtaining the proper manipulation of gated spillways on multiple purpose reservoirs to provide the most advantageous flood control on the stream and at the same time make the best use of the water for power, irrigation, or other purposes.

Correlation Of The Model And Prototype Tests Of The Conchas Dam Service Spillway And Stilling Basin, Geary W. Allen Jr. Jan 1952

Correlation Of The Model And Prototype Tests Of The Conchas Dam Service Spillway And Stilling Basin, Geary W. Allen Jr.

Civil Engineering ETDs

Conchas Dam and Reservoir, one of the largest water resources projects in the Southwest, build under the supervision of Corps of Engineers, is located below the confluence of the Conchas River and South Canadian River, near Tucumcari, New Mexico. Although it is the source of water supply for the vast Tucumcari Irrigation Project of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, its main purpose is flood control. Conchas Dam exerts a tremendous influence on the economy of the northeastern portion of Texas. To a hydraulic engineer its large size and complex hydraulic features present a most challenging field for study and research

An Investigation Of Soil-Cement For Use In A Parking Area, William Gus Koulas Jun 1948

An Investigation Of Soil-Cement For Use In A Parking Area, William Gus Koulas

Civil Engineering ETDs

The writer has confined his studies to the use of soil-cement for a parking area located at the State Fair Grounds in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This investigation was made with the expectation of using the existing soil with a minimum amount of cement as recommended for field use in the construction of soil-cement into a durable, serviceable and economical paved area.

A Study And Analysis Of Pumice-Concrete Building Blocks, George Leon Server May 1947

A Study And Analysis Of Pumice-Concrete Building Blocks, George Leon Server

Civil Engineering ETDs

The increasing use of concrete building blocks employing lightweight volcanic aggregates has presented many problems. Questions are constantly arising regarding locations of suitable lightweight aggregates, properties of the various materials, properties of blocks with different proportions of cement, and methods of manufacturing.
