Procrastination is a well-known phenomenon experienced by a lot of people in everyday life. People sometimes intentionally, sometimes unintentionally put off their tasks even though they might be worse off due to the delay (e.g., not paying bills due, even though they have sufficient funds in their bank account). It is safe to say everybody procrastinates at some point, but in academia the rate is relatively higher. The focus of this study is to explore graduate students’ understanding of timemanagement in online learning environments. The study also explores how the graduate students perceive and prefer to receive regularity of learning feedback. Specifically, an exploratory study was conducted following a sequential mixed methods design, dominated by a qualitative approach. Thirty-three participants voluntarily agreed to participate in this study. Six participants out of the 33 agreed to participate in the in-depth interviews. A need for current science education has emerged in enhancing students’ deep involvement in scientific practices in core disciplines. Students are encouraged to improve crosscutting concepts and disciplinary core ideas through authentic science practice through constructing theories about the real world, generating questions, conducting investigations, revising theories, and communicating and collaborating. A new education model addresses these needs by transforming classrooms into collaborative knowledge building communities. The purpose of the present study was to compare the efficiency of three tablet-based flashcard sight word interventions with varying ratios of known to unknown material that have historically been administered in paper-based form. To control for level of intervention duration, which tends to vary due to the presence of different amounts of known items across the conditions, the OTR for each flashcard procedure across intervention sessions were fixed. Cross-community collaboration which expands community members’ interaction to a larger social scale plays a crucial role in increasing information exchange and extending inquiry learning. This dissertation uses a design-based research approach which aims at testing a multi-level emergence design in multiple learning communities. This design serves the urgent need to enable students’ idea sharing and build-on with members from other communities who have similar interests for mutual learning and collective knowledge advances.

This exploratory study seeks to investigate how a mathematical education game, DragonBox12+, effects students’ learning about algebra. Data for this research was collected from middle school 7th grade students in the Northeast region of the United States of America. The interviews and classroom observations were recorded on videotape. The research results showed that the video game DragonBox 12+ affects students’ attitude of mathematics and learning of mathematics by the help of using game mechanics to teaching algebraic rules.

Writing strategies, such as graphic organizers and mnemonic devices, have supported students in planning in advance of writing and technology has the potential to alleviate the burden of handwriting fatigue for struggling writers. As children increasingly use digital technologies in interactions with their parents (Marsh, 2003, 2004, 2011; Robinson & Turnbull, 2005), such possibilities create new ways in which literacy is practiced (Barton, Hamilton, & Ivanič, 2000; Jewitt, 2008; Street, 1998). Yet, what the literacy field knows about interactions between children and parents comes mostly from studies on traditional print (Caspe, 2009; Halliday, 1975; Heath, 1983). The research attending to children's interactions with technologies suggests that while young children are immersed in a culture of digital media, research on young children's home literacy practices involving technologies is far from comprehensive.

This study explored the learning experiences of international students in fully online courses offered through a US university. Employing a sociocultural framework, particularly ideas put forward by Russian psychologists L. Vygotsky and American scholars R. Scollon and S. W. Scollon, the study examined the interplay of host and native cultures in an online learning environment and studied its effect on international students' learning experiences, specifically on the learning experiences of one focal student from China.

Research suggests that availability and use of distance education (DE) and distance education technologies (DET, i.e., technological applications) are growing at a prolific rate. Excitement over new technologies stems from their potential to develop new ways of teaching and learning. Yet, whereas the infrastructure necessary to support DE and DET exists, pedagogical applications have not kept pace. A major reason cited in the literature for limited use of DE and DET is mainstream faculty leadership and willingness to adopt these applications.
