The Impact Of Federal Regulations On The Small Coal Mine In Appalachia, Bernard Davis

The study addresses two specific issues influencing the production of coal from small mines: 1) the direct costs and other effects of government regulation and deregulation on coal operators in general, and 2) the effects of governmental policies on the productivity by size (tonnage) class of small coal mines. Appalachian Kentucky was used as the study area because of the wide range of mine firm sizes.

The Lchthyofauna Of The Big Sandy River Basin, With Special Emphasis On The Levisa Fork Drainage, Jerry F. Howell Jr.

A literature and regional repository review of the Big Sandy Basin ichthyofouno yielded 111 confirmed species, including 93 from Leviso Fork and its tributaries. Twenty-nine additional species were added to the lost published comprehensive review (Jenkins et al., 1972); one species was not re-confirmed. The 111 forms (108 confirmed or probable) included 14 known or suspected introductions and 20 species (including 12 recently collected from Leviso Fork) with special Kentucky Nature Preserves Commission status codes. The two most threatened Kentucky species were Percino macrocephala and Ammocrypto pellucido.

A Study Of Significant Differences In Values, Problems & Personality Characteristics Of English 055 Students & English 101 Students At Western Kentucky University, Nancy Moore

Fifty students from English 055 and 50 students from English 101 were given the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule, the Mooney Problem Check Lists, the Allport/ Vernon/Lindzey Study of Values, and the Willoughby Schedule to determine if any significant differences existed between the two groups in the areas of personality characteristics, values, or problems. A statistical analysis of the results was determined by means of a t value from a separate variance estimate. Results indicated that significant differences existed between the 055 students and the 101 students in the following areas: self-esteem, economic values, need for achievement, and …

This Thesis is an evaluation of the first year of an instructional media intern program in northeastern Illinois, near Chicago. Included as part of the evaluation is a description of the program in video cassette format. The script of the recording is one part of this paper. Accurate population projections are essential for anyone engaged in long-range planning. Predicting future population trends any considerable distance into the future, however, is a notoriously risky undertaking. So many human variables are involved that all too frequently such projections make a mockery of the demographer's best efforts. Regardless of how sophisticated are the statistical models used, long-range population forcasting is statistical guessing with a fairly wide margin of error.
