The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires that persons with disabilities be integrated to the maximum extent possible, and that these persons cannot be excluded from participation. Intramural directors need to be proactive in this area. The benefits of intramural sports are vast, and they help many students become part of the college community.

Forming an alliance with the Disability Services on campus, the first step, is the most vital aspect of making these programs successful. It is important to remember the difference between what can be done and what must be done. Even with the best of intentions, it …

Meeting The Digital Literacy Needs Of Growing Workforce, Abha Gupta, Hassan Ndahi

Teaching & Learning Faculty Publications

Assessment of computer literacy needs from the perspective of potential workforce development is an important part of an educational program involving adult learners. About 22 percent of adults currently entering the labor market possess the technology skills that are required for 60% of new jobs. This paper describes the training provided to tutors and trainers of adult learning centers in Hampton Roads Virginia. Results showed that the trainees, prior to the training, had limited access to computer technology and needed training in incorporating computer technology in the curriculum. After the training, trainees have shown increased levels of comfort with various …

Faculty Senate

In March 2002, the WKU University Senate Faculty Welfare & Professional Responsibilities Committee surveyed the Western Kentucky University faculty concerning aspects of their jobs. This study was undertaken, in part, due to concern over the number of faculty leaving the university. Of the possible 614 faculty, 367 responded, making the response rate 59.8%. This report outlines and examines the faculty's responses to the research/creative and service activity sections of this survey as well as the sections dealing with support, salary and healthcare benefits.

Microfinance With Nonformal Education An Approach For Effectiveness And Scaling Up Outreach, Mukul Acharya

Master's Capstone Projects

Any discipline when it gets some popularity also becomes the subject of a constant review and even critical assessment. This can be positive sign of its growth and potentiality. It draws more attention. Pressure starts mounting up for ongoing improvements within its own framework. If it cannot keep it up with the pressure that energy will be diverted to development of alternatives. This is very natural. Now Microfinance is also going through this. It has become one of the important components of development initiatives. Over time microfinance has become very successful. At the same time, it has also generated some …

Integrating And Evaluating Interdisciplinary Sustainability And Stem Curriculum In Geographical Education: A Case Of Three Teaching Modalities, Susan Gilbertz, Brittany Wood, Christopher Craig, Ismail Karabas, Elizabeth Petrun Sayers, Benjamin Mccormick Jan 2002

Integrating And Evaluating Interdisciplinary Sustainability And Stem Curriculum In Geographical Education: A Case Of Three Teaching Modalities, Susan Gilbertz, Brittany Wood, Christopher Craig, Ismail Karabas, Elizabeth Petrun Sayers, Benjamin Mccormick

Faculty & Staff Research and Creative Activity

The effectiveness of interdisciplinary sustainability curriculum remains understudied in geography education. Accordingly, we deployed and evaluated an interdisciplinary sustainability and STEM module for in-person and online sections of a fall 2018 Human Geography course. Results indicate that sustainability knowledge improved after the interdisciplinary curricular intervention irrespective of course modality. Another focus is to explore student reactions to teaching modality due to COVID-19 disruptions. Results indicate that online student sustainability knowledge also improved during COVID-19 (fall 2020). For students in a section converted from in-person to blended, sustainability knowledge did not improve. Implications are provided.
