This is a book about how a group of folks, in a time long ago, living in a small Minnesota college town, celebrated life. It is a story of reflection. Reflection into the past when times and people were - shall we say - different. The people were veterans returning from the war, the time was the middle of the century-1947 through 1964. The intents of the research were to determine both curricular trends in four-year baccalaureate industrial technology programs and the role accreditation standards have on such trends. The purpose was to present implications for future curriculum development and to provide a framework and point of reference for both curriculum developers and standards writers.

From the literature review, questionnaire items were designed to answer four research questions. The instrument was validated by a jury process and data were collected from 60 respondents, organized and compiled using National Association of Industrial Technology curriculum categories. The purpose of this paper was to justify the need for teachers to realize the value and accessibility of manipulatives in their classrooms. Principals in the Francis Howell School District felt the need from the comments made from their respective teaching staffs. A flyer sent to all K-2 district teachers describing the purpose of the workshop, substantiated the principals' feelings. A workshop with funding for each participant was set up for July 18. Research of literature and attendance at manipulative workshops by the presenter helped to build the knowledge and techniques that would be used in the presentation. An outline …

This study observed the present conditions of attitudes toward gender roles, as communicated by caregivers in eight east central Illinois preschool settings. Two research questions were formulated in order to categorize responses for the purpose of identifying prevailing gender role attitudes. Those questions were: "How do caregivers in a preschool setting affect gender role stereotypes?" and "What are key communication events that may create or perpetuate gender role stereotypes in the preschool setting?" The data was obtained from personal interviews and the Bem Sex Role Inventory. The results indicated caregivers in the preschool setting did not see gender roles and …

This study is about the relationship of content in teaching to the process in teaching for the purpose of helping students to become better readers of literature. This study investigates two selected teaching strategies supported by research to be effective, and applies them to the teaching of a canonical piece of literature, The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. This study employs literary theory in the development of the objectives and applies both cooperative learning and mastery learning methods to the teaching of this novel. The purpose of this study was to examine the policy implementation process, and its implication for planned organizational change. A review of the literature reveals that school districts must utilize intensive recruitment campaigns to increase the hiring of minorities. The Superintendent Questionnaire was sent to the thirty-five Large Unit District Association (LUDA) throughout Illinois. Descriptive statistics, in the form of frequencies and percentages, were used to analyze responses to the questionnaire. The present study was designed to investigate parent and teacher reactions to the use of the Referral Question Consultative Decision Making (RQC) Model in conducting triennial re-evaluations in an educational facility serving students with mental retardation. The survey population included 30 parents and 15 teachers who were involved in triennial re-evaluations during the 1989-90 school year.

A questionnaire was mailed to the survey population which addressed the areas of referral questions and the written report, participation, and interventions. The survey included questions rated on a five point Likert Scale and open ended questions. Data were analyzed by reporting percentages of …

This thesis attempts to detect differences between those students who receive tutoring and gained passing grades and those who received tutoring and gained failing grades. Differences are detected by investigating three different independent variables; high school grade point average, American College Test (ACT) scores and time spent with a tutor. The subjects were University of Northern Iowa students who had received tutorial services from Student Support Services from the years 1985 to 1989. The research questions were as follows. 1. This descriptive research was conducted to collect data concerning the accessibility of school microcomputers to students who have been labeled as having a mild (high prevalence) handicapping condition. One hundred thirty nine randomly selected school administrators in East Central Illinois were surveyed to determine the number of microcomputers in their schools and the types of programs that were offered to students with special needs. The schools were divided into seven categories depending on the type and size.
