A Study Of The Public Relations Program Of The Valley Park School, Cedar Falls, Iowa, Puran L. Rajpal

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

Public relations is a relatively new field in educational administration and it has possibilities for further study that have scarcely been explored. "It is new in the sense that the importance of this field was not formally recognized until a few years ago when provisions were made for it in the management of educational institutions. In recent years educational leaders have been increasingly aware of the importance of effective school public relationships. James L. Hymes, Jr., said, "Home-school relations is a new field. Very little research and experimentation are available as direct guides.”

Differences In Class Rank Between Boys And Girls In Graduating Classes Of Iowa Public Secondary Schools, Dave John Cook

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

For many years, educators have noted that girls seem to attain higher class rank than boys while attending secondary schools. It appears that this idea has been accepted a priori and that little research effort has been put forth to determine the magnitude of the differences which exist. It is a matter of conjecture at the present time as to how great the differences must be before they will be considered to be serious problems.

It was the purpose of this study (1) to determine whether significant differences existed between the class standing of boys and the class standing of …

The Development Of A Handbook For Use In The Selection Of Materials On Communism For Secondary Social Studies Classes, Richard Raymond Olmsted

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

Following World War Two, the United States and the Soviet Union became the chief rivals for world leadership. Because of this, communism replaced fascism as the totalitarian ideology of most concern to Americans. This new situation brought with it a series of problems for the public schools: Should secondary schools teach about communism? How should this topic be approached? What materials should be provided for use by high school students?

For a time, public hysteria prevented the logical resolution of these problems. George B. Bruntz describes this period in the following way:

There was a time when the mere mention …

The writer ahs been on the faculty of the State Normal and Industrial College at Ellendale, North Dakota since 1957.
