It is important for second language college teachers to know what kinds of teaching and learning approaches are most effective for their students. This basic qualitative study presents the perspectives exceptional second language teachers have regarding their own qualities of excellence, practices, philosophies of teaching, and theories of learning. The purpose of the study was to identify, describe, and understand these perspectives. Sixteen of such teachers, all of whom had won one or more awards of excellence from professional organizations, were interviewed, and the collected data were analyzed through three levels of coding. The purpose of this thesis was to perform an exploratory study to determine if the ScanDo! app intervention is an assistive technology that increases interaction for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a museum setting. The ScanDo! app intervention presented a video demonstration that modeled the interaction for each learning station by scanning the QR code attached to the station. Using a naturally occurring baseline single-subject design with ABA and reversed ABA phases, two children with ASD and their parents visited the grocery store exhibit at a children’s museum. Additionally, research shows that utilizing developmentally appropriate practices (DAP) produces positive short and long term results for students; indicating the effectiveness and necessity for DAP in the classroom. The development of thermal interface materials (TIMs) is necessitated by the temperature drop across interfacing materials arising from macro and microscopic irregularities of their surfaces that constricts heat through small contact regions as well as mismatches in their thermal properties. Similar to other types of TIMs, CNT TIMs alleviate the thermal resistance across the interface by thermally bridging two materials together with cylindrical, high-aspect ratio, and nominally vertical conducting elements. In this research, I investigated teachers’ interpretations of the goals of professional development and factors that contributed to enacted instructional practices. A multiple-case study design was used to examine the interpretations of four high school teachers participating in a year-long professional development program with a standards-based framework for mathematics education. The purpose of this action research project was to determine if there is a correlation between the use of technology in the seventh grade social studies classroom and the motivation for learning. A combination of technology enriched lessons and traditional textbook and pencil lessons were used over a period of nearly two months. Data was collected through quantitative surveys and qualitative observations and responses from students. Analysis of the data collected suggests that student motivation and joy of learning increases as technology is used in the classroom. This dissertation examined the extent to which workplace spirituality was associated with work intentions, and whether ethical leadership served as a mediator of the relationship between workplace spirituality and work intentions. The study begins with an overview of the significant workplace spirituality literature, and a brief overview of work intentions and ethical leadership. A convenience sample of 405 U.S. based adults, employed full-time were surveyed. Using correlation and path analysis, results from the study showed a positive strong association between workplace spirituality and employee work intentions, and mediation via ethical leadership. In 2006, Meredith v. Jefferson County Board of Education determined race-based student assignment plans violated the 14th Amendment. Through the assistance of Orfield and Frankenberg (2011), Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) reconfigured the district’s race-based student assignment and implemented a race- and socioeconomic-based student assignment plan. The purpose of this research was to discover if the amount of social interaction happening in an inclusive preschool setting between students with special needs and typically developing peers could be increased by adding simple interventions into daily classroom routines. Participants included four children, one girl and three boys, being served by an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) in a regular preschool classroom. The purpose of this research was to discover if project base learning is a more effective instruction framework versus our traditional framework of instruction, which involves teachers standing in front of students and providing information through a lecture. The study was conducted in the author’s third grade classroom, in a public school district in rural Iowa.
