Critical and Creative Thinking Capstones Collection

Students enter the classroom with individual schemas, based on their experiences and ideas, which influence the reception, interpretation, and recollection of new information. Effective teachers must understand the implications of these existing schemas. As an experienced classroom teacher, the author finds students often manipulate and apply new information well in class, only to forget or alter the material a few weeks later;. When misconceptions are woven into schemas, they interfere with reception of information. This thesis examines specific student-held misconceptions about the area and perimeter of rectangles and the process of their identification and eradication. A Study Of Nebraska Superitendents' Opinions Toward School Restructuring, Allan J. Inzerello

Student Work

Public school superintendents from Nebraska were asked to indicate their priorities toward school restructuring in five areas identified by the researcher. The areas of inquiry included school goals, school curriculum, instruction or methodology, evaluation and school organization. Current literature in each of the areas of school reform was investigated in order to devise survey statements that all public school superintendents could rank order as to their highest priorities toward school restructuring. Of the 311 surveys mailed to superintendents, a total of 191 were returned. The responses represented 61.4% of Nebraska public school superintendents. The Impact Of Andrews' Community Service Assistantship Program On Students, Andrews University, And The Local Community: An Interim Report, Sten Labianca

The original objective of this research project was to determine the short and long-term impact of Andrews University's Community Service Assistantship Program (CSAP) on college students' attitudes toward civic responsibility and volunteerism. The study also sought to examine the broader impact of the program on students' academic performance, its impact on Andrews University as a whole, and its impact on the local community. The following is an interim report on findings relative to these objectives.
