Problem. The purpose of this study was to compare and contrast two distinct educational models: (1) Peruvian educational reform, which affected both public and private education throughout the country, and (2) the Seventh-day Adventist educational system as represented by Inca Union College. This research was limited geographically to Peru chronologically to the educational reform of 1968 and 1980. After the historical background was established, emphasis was placed on the Peruvian educational reform as a model of innovation as compared with the Seventh-day Adventist model at Inca Union College.

Problem

The study is about the selection process used to determine exemplary Michigan public elementary schools. Do those public elementary schools selected for recognition by the Michigan Department of Education represent the highest levels of educational quality within the state?

Method

The study was causal-comparative in design. The sample consisted of the 79 public elementary schools which applied in 1985 for recognition as a Michigan Department of Education exemplary school. Additionally, the 80 highest academic-achieving Michigan public elementary schools were identified. Problem. Within the time constraints of the 24-hour day and the sevenday week, and under the pressure of the increased number of units to be earned before graduation from Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) residence academies, it was doubtful that students were experiencing educational balance. The number of and time for activities in which a student could be engaged, plus the content and emphasis on daily functions, were studied and reported under five areas of educational balance: academic achievement, vocational and professional interests, social growth, physical activities, and religious experience.

Purpose. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the Parent Readiness Education Project (PREP) on readiness skills and subsequent performance of preschool children.

Procedures. This was an ex-post-facto study using summative evaluative procedures. Seven hundred and thirty-six students from the Ballard, Eastside, Ellis, Howard, and Oak Manor elementary schools in the Niles Community School District, Niles, Michigan, were used in this evaluation. All the subjects had participated in the Title III federally funded PREP screening program which selected those students with anticipated learning problems for PREP training. Statistics Canada (1977) reported that the national mobility rate of the teaching force in Canadian public elementary and secondary schools in 1975-76 was 11 percent, compared with 15 percent in 1970-71. During the 1970-78 period, Seventh-day Adventist church schools (elementary/secondary day schools) in Canada reported a 38 percent teacher/principal mobility rate. Problem: Theological education is an important concern of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the South Pacific Islands. Current concerns include ascertaining the best type of theological education for the Adventist Church in this region; determining cultural influence on curriculum; designing a model for the coordination of theological education in Oceania; outlining alternative three-year diploma and four-year bachelor’s-degree curricula; and offering recommendations for the development of Adventist ministerial education in Oceania.
