All Graduate Projects

Prereading activities are important in enabling students to comprehend and enjoy the books they read. Teachers are always in need of good prereading activities, and the increasing popularity of computers offers opportunities to fill this need, however, technology is not keeping up with educators' needs in this area. While there is an overwhelming quantity of commercially produced computer software programs, they are invariably generic in nature. No software relating to prereading strategies appears to be available. A CD containing multimedia prereading activities was produced to accompany a selected list of elementary level trade books. The CD is intended to be …

Each student was then asked to demonstrate, without the aid of instructions, operation of three machines selected by a laboratory assistant. The present study is investigative in nature and seeks to clarify the following question: whether a difference exists in student performance using linear or a broadview format.

Past And Possible Future Preferences For 8-Mm And 16-Mm Projectors: First-Class School Districts Washington State, Milton E. Ruth Jan 1970

Past And Possible Future Preferences For 8-Mm And 16-Mm Projectors: First-Class School Districts Washington State, Milton E. Ruth

All Master's Theses

Educators recognize the contributions motion picture films make in the classroom learning situation. However, the problem of determining budget expenditures necessitates a continual evaluation of the utility of specific equipment. This study was an attempt to ascertain the past and future preferences for eight millimeter and sixteen millimeter motion picture projectors. For purposes of this investigation, the following null hypothesis was used: Given a hypothetical grant, there would be no significant difference in preference for purchasing eight millimeter motion picture projectors over sixteen millimeter motion picture projectors by first-class school districts in the state of Washington.

Video Tape Recording: What It Is And How It Can Be Used In The Schools, Donald Bryant Frankhauser

Graduate Student Research Papers

I feel the video tape recorder will have a very definite place in the schools. It will be one of our audiovisual aids, just as television, the 16mm. projector and others. It is a tool with unlimited possibilities and a great deal of flexibility. It is a device that can and will be used by teachers at all levels of teaching. It is not an instrument to take the place of the teacher, but, like all audiovisual equipment, is a tool to help the teacher do a more effective job.

Techniques In Evaluating Instructional Television, James E. Rediske

Graduate Student Research Papers

Experiments have shown that television's potential as an important educational resource and tool is unlimited and, as yet, only the surface has been scratched. In fact, the realm of interaction has broadened through classroom viewing to the extent that a new and complete evaluation of the relationship between the student and teacher must be made.

The purpose of this paper will be to (1) identify and clarify the questions: who should evaluate, why should evaluation take place, how often should evaluation be conducted, and how should evaluation be achieved; and (2) provide sample questionnaire material from which evaluations could be …

A Survey Of Literature Pertaining To In Service Training Of Teachers In The Use Of Audio-Visual Materials And Equipment, Lewis E. Patton

Graduate Student Research Papers

The teacher trained more than ten years ago rarely had opportunities for audio-visual studies. Therefore, it is incumbent on the audio-visual director to provide such information for members of the teaching staff. It was the purpose of this research (1) to show the value of audio-visual aids in the learning process; (2) to determine common audiovisual materials and equipment used in the classroom; (3) to present the role of the audio-visual director in the inservice training program; and (4) to show the teacher's role in the program.

Possible Solutions To Certain Problems Arising In The Production Of School-Produced Motion Pictures, Harley G. Jones Jul 1955

Possible Solutions To Certain Problems Arising In The Production Of School-Produced Motion Pictures, Harley G. Jones

Graduate Student Research Papers

The basic problem chosen for this study is "Possible Solutions to Certain Problems Arising in the Production of School-Produced Motion Pictures." Specific problems arise in any medium of expression, and it is wise to expect problems to arise when locally produced audio-visual aids in the form of motion pictures are considered by a school. The paper resulting from this study does not supply all of the answers to all of the problems, nor does it necessarily supply the best answers to any specific problem arising. Nevertheless, by posing some available solutions to certain of the problems, it provides assistance in …

Visual Aids In Education, Ernest L. Muzzall Apr 1939

Visual Aids In Education, Ernest L. Muzzall

All Faculty Scholarship for the College of Education and Professional Studies

Three objections arc frequently made to the installation of moving-picture equipment in schools by teachers and school administrators. The first objection is that good materials are not available when needed. Secondly, teachers are not trained to use them. Thirdly, they are too expensive. The Central Washington College of Education at Ellensburg has recently established a library of 16-mm. sound films. These films, consisting of seventy-six titles, are being circulated among twelve school systems of the state on a subscription basis.
