Relationships Among Teachers' Efficacy, Teachers' Locus-Of-Control, And Student Achievement, David L. Burrell

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to determine if teacher effectiveness, as measured by value-added gain scores on student achievement, was related to the teacher personality characteristics of efficacy and locus of control. The value-added mean gain scores for each teacher were correlated with teachers' scores on the Rand Corporation Efficacy Scale and the Rose and Medway Teacher Locus of Control Scale. A multiple regression analysis was used to determine if these teacher characteristics along with selected demographic variables could be used as good predictors of achievement gain. Actual And Ideal Shared Decision-Making Perceptions Of Elementary School Teachers In East Tennessee, Rebecca F. Walters

The problem of this study was to determine if differences existed between teachers' perceptions of the actual and ideal level of involvement in decision making in elementary schools. It represents one part of a comprehensive research project conducted simultaneously with two other researchers. The parallel studies examined principals' and parents' involvement in school decision making. The study was conducted during the 1993-94 school year in Tennessee. Significant differences were found between teachers' perception of the actual and ideal levels of involvement in decisions concerning the budgetary process, personnel matters, and curriculum decisions. The Attributes, Teaching Effectiveness, And Educational Commitment Of Part-Time Faculty In North Carolina Community Colleges, Joseph W. Franklin

This study evaluated the attributes, teaching effectiveness and educational commitment of part-time faculty in enrollment-funded community colleges. The Student Instructional Rating instrument was used to measure student perceptions of instructors in the community college. Twenty four community colleges were randomly selected from North Carolina. Within each college, four full-time and four part-time faculty were randomly selected to participate in the study. Attributes of part-time faculty were compared to attributes of full-time faculty. Teaching effectiveness was assessed from dimensions on the Student Instructional Rating instrument.
