Meaning And Pedagogical Impact Of Class Notes Translated Into Mandarin Chinese For Scholars From China Enrolled In Research Techniques Traning, Tiffany L. Whitcomb, Jiafen Hu
Adult Education Research Conference
We conducted a qualitative study to understand the meaning of translating class notes into Mandarin Chinese for Chinese students enrolled in our hands-on training program for biomedical techniques. To date, no studies have reported interventions to support researchers from China as they learn animal care and use techniques, particularly whether translating class materials into Mandarin Chinese fulfills a specific pedagogical need. Semi-structured interviews were conducted in order to collect rich, descriptive data. Interviews were transcribed and open coding was conducted by each researcher independently. Axial coding was performed in unison until a consensus for categories was reached. Several themes emerged …

Exploration Des Facteurs Influençant La Mobilisation Des Savoirs Par Une Pensée Critique Chez Des Étudiantes Infirmières Bachelières Lors De Stages Cliniques, Kathleen Lechasseur, Ginette Lazure, Louise Guilbert
Quality Advancement in Nursing Education - Avancées en formation infirmière

Dancing field has, from the beginning, expanded its category from expressing humans' internal desires with physical activities to being active in aesthetic areas. Today, the adult dancing education is the medium where emotional, physical, and psychological abilities can be expressed. The fact that people utilize dance as a learning method, shows their acknowledgement of the value of dance as an educational method. It can be said that dancing leads people to evolve and grow ideologically. Thus, dance education not only simply teaches producing or mimicking an art piece, but also helps to develop an individual into a creative person through …

An Appreciative Dialogue Between East And West, Ann Brooks, Qi Sun
An Appreciative Dialogue Between East And West, Ann Brooks, Qi Sun
Adult Education Research Conference
In the context of globalized world, many countries have encountered similar changes and challenges. Learning from one another becomes critical to better understand the strengths and limitations of different theoretical and methodological approaches of education and adult education in particular. International and comparative education have historically demonstrated an effective way of learning from each other. Yet learning from each other seems to become very limited. Instead, learning from the West has become the norm due to its dominant economic position, a legacy of colonialism, the exportation of education, and the development of English as the lingua franca of scholarly publishing …

Report On The Survey Of Governance And Adaptation To Innovative Modes Of Higher Education Provision (Gaihe), Andrew Gibson, Ellen Hazelkorn, Barry Colfer
Reports
Higher education around the world is undergoing significant change. Globalisation and competition from new modes of provision have sparked a strong debate about how to maintain the efficiency and effectiveness of higher education. These developments challenge the “traditional” model of university education and its future. How does the management of European universities adapt to these innovations? What are the new modes of education provision across Europe? What is the role of university governance and government policy in establishing and regulating innovative modes of education provision? What are the motivations, barriers and drivers for innovative education provision?
The definition of innovation …

Colgan Air Accident-Driven Changes To Part 121 Flight Operations: It Is Time For Phase Two (Editorial), Donald R. Gibbs
International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace
It has been just one year since the FAA mandated a minimum of 1500 total flight hours for all part 121 pilots and the implementation of the corresponding 3-tier restricted ATP program based on reduced flight hours. It is time to consider alternatives that meet both the concerns of congress and the concerns of the Colgan Air mishap families, while simultaneously being sensitive to the industry pilot shortage. How did we get here and are there any off-the-shelf alternatives to the three tiers to help get pilots into the left seat sooner?
This article is an editorial and does not …

The Imperative Of The School Choice Option Of Nclb: In Whose Interest?, Teri Jones
The Imperative Of The School Choice Option Of Nclb: In Whose Interest?, Teri Jones
Georgia Educational Research Association Conference
Since No Child Left Behind (NCLB) became law, educators have faced challenges trying to protect the common good of a public education while, at the same time, developing and/or reviewing proposals to provide for the school choice option of NCLB. In the debate over market-driven education versus traditional public education, many times, the ideologies behind each approach come into direct conflict. Educators and legislators need to be able to identify when privileged interests are at the core of reforms or if the education of each student is the primary interest being served.
This project provides a real life portrait of …

Special Educators Describe The Critical Mass Of Co-Teaching, Cynthia T. Shamberger, Kendra W. Henriques
Georgia Educational Research Association Conference
Co-teaching is an instructional approach usually initiated by school administrators to help general and special education teachers who share a single classroom to ensure students with disabilities have access to the general curriculum. Although research regarding co-teaching is still in need of further development in some areas such as student achievement, co-teaching has increasingly grown in popularity as an option for addressing the multiple needs of diverse learners, including students with disabilities. Some school professionals and researchers who are proponents of this instructional delivery model believe that, "At the core of co-teaching is determining what instructional techniques will be most …
