Cross-Boundary Leaders For Education & Equity Symposium: Preparing Leaders For Public Education, José M. Torres

José M. Torres

Public education has become an increasingly polarizing topic. Yet, experience and research tell us that solutions to our most pressing educational issues are likely to emerge when leaders work together across boundaries—be they ideological, geographical, or institutional. For 50 years the Institute for Educational Leadership (IEL) has championed the need for leaders at all levels to shake off their in- stitutional constraints and jointly respond to the needs of young people and their families. IEL’s Cross-Boundary Leaders for Education and Equity Symposium offers an objective, open-mind- ed, nonpartisan space where leaders can come together and discuss complex issues facing public …

Extending And Accelerating Global Business-Education Partnerships, Dylan Kissane, John Farrell

Dylan Kissane

Senior management in contemporary graduate business education must respond are the trends that are leaving a marked impact on the traditional business models of business schools. Key stakeholders in the business education ecosystem, including the students, the corporate employers and the business schools themselves, demand more of graduate education in order that their respective careers flourish, future employees have the requisite skills and experience, and business education institutions survive. Transforming Personal Leadership, Kim Washington-Watson

Kim Washington-Watson

To debrief from your research is vitally important to gain perspective about your own transforming power, self-efficacy, and tools needed to continue to do what you came here to do. I was so immersed in my subjects, their lives, and their ideology, I forgot who I was and what I came there to do. I gained membership from my subjects, got lost in their world, needed their acceptance, and did not know how to let them go. As I reflected upon my own education, career, and where I have come from in order to go forward, truth and admission required …

Shaun R. Harper, Ph.D.

Between 1997 and 2012, much was done on college campuses and elsewhere to improve Black male student achievement. Notwithstanding, their enrollments, academic performance, and rates of baccalaureate degree attainment remain just as troublesome now as they were 15 years ago. But why? And what can be learned as various stakeholders introduce future initiatives in response to issues affecting Black undergraduate men, as well as Asian American/Pacific Islander (AAPI), Latino, and Native American male collegians? In this chapter, I chronicle the 15-year emphasis on Black male students in U.S. higher education. I first catalogue a range of efforts enacted between 1997 …

Particularly, we recognize that universities have experienced modifications in recent times that have generated important effects on its stages and decision-making processes. These effects have enhanced the academic and practical interest in this strategic point of view on the contemporary university. In this text, we deal with the general topic of university governance as a subject of study. We examine some approaches that have addressed this issue since the decade of 1970s, especially in the United States and Europe.
