Learning From Machines: How Negative Feedback From Machines Improves Learning Between Humans, Tengjian Zou, Gokhan Ertug, Thomas Roulet Feb 2024

Learning From Machines: How Negative Feedback From Machines Improves Learning Between Humans, Tengjian Zou, Gokhan Ertug, Thomas Roulet

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

Prior studies on learning from failure primarily focus on how individuals learn from failure feedback given by other individuals. It is unclear whether and how the advent of machine feedback may influence individuals’ learning from failures. We suggest that failure feedback provided by machines facilitates learning in two ways. First, it focuses individuals’ attention on their failures, leading them to learn from these failures. Second, it serves as a catalyzer, motivating individuals to learn more from failure feedback given to them by other individuals as well. In addition, this catalyzing effect is stronger if the failure feedback from machines and …

Meeting The Sustainability Challenges: An Assessment Of Entrepreneurial Education, Anna Zherdeva, Intesar Madi, Abrar Alzankawi, Lucia Morales Dr, L. Pop, A. Soler-Dominguez, J.C. Saez

Conference papers

The importance of sustainability and entrepreneurship education is highlighted in this study. The world economies are facing significant challenges as they try to enable the transition towards more sustainable economic and business models. Therefore, at the centre of the transition process, it is critical to consider the role that business education can play and, more specifically, the role of business schools in integrating and supporting the development of skills and competencies that align with our contemporary society's needs. In this paper, we initially assess the need to connect entrepreneurial and sustainability education by exploring the educational offerings at Technological University …

Advanced Education Programs Faculty Publications

This study investigated the digital existence of the food bank users in a university town in Texas, and subsequently, aligned with the research's pragmatic focus, the researchers designed a training model for these food bank users. Two research questions guided the study: What are the digital existence levels of the food bank users, and what training model would best serve these food bank users? Additional data included observations and conversations with food bank staff, and documents and materials from the site which provided deeper …

Enhancing Inclusive Entrepreneurial Activity Through Community Engagement Led By Higher Education Institutions, Emma O'Brien, Thomas M. Cooney Jan 2024

Enhancing Inclusive Entrepreneurial Activity Through Community Engagement Led By Higher Education Institutions, Emma O'Brien, Thomas M. Cooney

Articles

While supporting entrepreneurship through government intervention has become a global phenomenon, the OECD (2021) has identified that several communities (including women, youth, seniors, unemployed and immigrants) remain under-represented in terms of entrepreneurial activity. Inclusive entrepreneurship policies seek to enhance economic and social inclusion and emphasise the significant contribution that people from within these communities could make to local and regional development if appropriate support was offered. The purpose of this study is to examine how higher education institutions (HEIs) can co-create inclusive entrepreneurial training initiatives with local communities that support economic and social inclusion.

The Nature And Validity Of Implicit Bias Training For Health Care Providers And Trainees: A Systematic Review, Nao Hagiwara, Conor Duffy, John Cyrus, Nadia Harika, Ginger S. Watson, Tiffany L. Green

VMASC Publications

The number of health care educational institutions/organizations adopting implicit bias training is growing. Our systematic review of 77 studies (published 1 January 2003 through 21 September 2022) investigated how implicit bias training in health care is designed/delivered and whether gaps in knowledge translation compromised the reliability and validity of the training. The primary training target was race/ethnicity (49.3%); trainings commonly lack specificity on addressing implicit prejudice or stereotyping (67.5%). They involved a combination of hands-on and didactic approaches, lasting an average of 343.15 min, often delivered in a single day (53.2%). Trainings also exhibit translational gaps, diverging from current literature …

Rethinking Core Curriculum Design In An Undergraduate Business And Management Programme In A Technological University In Ireland, Pat Kenny, Joe Fitzgerald, Eoghan Fitzgerald, Roisin Donnelly

Presentations

This presentation will share current design thinking on a longstanding, highly regarded undergraduate programme in Business and Management in a Technological University in Ireland. Technological universities offer programmes that are vocationally and professionally oriented. The 4-year programme has remained consistently popular with students throughout the life cycle of recruitment, orientation, delivery and performance. There is a strong legacy in case teaching and inquiry learning in this programme. This is evidenced through group discussion and solving of complex problems, and current case studies facilitate development of the higher levels of cognitive, interdisciplinary learning. They are used to highlight connections between specific …

Introducing Business School Research And Positive Impact, Howard Thomas

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

Typically, there are three main priorities, and dimensions, which interact with each other as business schools frame their visions and missions of enhancing management knowledge and producing distinctive management theories and insights. First, the processes of knowledge generation and development to produce high quality, often multi-disciplinary research outputs involving academic faculty, doctoral students and ‘tri-sector’ participants. Second, knowledge dissemination in teaching and learning activities enabling the growth of quality education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and thus contributing to student intellectual growth and societal socio-economic development and advancement. Third, knowledge transfer through ‘tri-sector’ collaboration, engagement and practice enhancements that is …
