There is little to no research about financial literacy in Appalachia, and the level of financial literacy was unknown for Appalachian Kentucky. Initial public offering (IPO) underpricing is a costly practice that decreases the IPO proceeds accruing to the issuing firms and can derail a firm's growth objectives. The purpose of this correlational study was to determine the relationship between share retention, underwriter reputation, and IPO underpricing among a population of IPOs issued in Jamaica. The efficient market hypothesis served as the theoretical framework for this study. Archived data for 52 IPOs issued in Jamaica from 1986 to 2018 were collected and Spearman's correlation matrix and heteroscedasticity-consistent standard errors regression analysis were applied. In 2010, regulators established new rules for single-family mortgage services that tightened the loan amount consumers could qualify for, restricted fees lenders could charge, and placed numerous financial penalties for improper servicing of loans. Regulatory fee restrictions made it difficult for leaders to offset the compliance costs through the price of services provided. Poor decisions and conflicts of interest by members of company boards of directors have been a factor in the dramatic rise in chief executive officer (CEO) compensation, resulting in a lower return on equity (ROE) for shareholders. The Dogs of the Dow trading strategy popular strategy that invests in the ten stocks with the highest dividend yield in the Dow Jones Industrial Average. We examine a newer variation of this strategy that involves investing in the five highest dividend yield stocks from each sector of the S&P 500. We compare returns of this this strategy to those of the Dogs of the Dow and to those of the S&P 500. We find that this strategy has higher raw returns than both the Dogs of the Dow and S&P.
