The traditional relationship – that Aboriginal peoples in Canada have had with their land and its resources – has changed significantly since the arrival of Europeans. During the 17th and 18th centuries, trade relations with the newcomers introduced to Aboriginal peoples: 1) capitalism; 2) the capitalist view toward land; 3) the exploitation of resources. The newly formed Canadian government in the late 19th century with its Indian policy expedited the shift to a capitalist economy with the creation of Indian reserves. This qualitative exploratory study seeks to present a deeper understanding of entrepreneurs of Indian ethnicity operating firms in the formal sector in Christchurch, New Zealand. Our over-arching guiding question was: Why do first generation ethnic minority immigrants become entrepreneurs? Sub questions included the exploration of the why and what of entrepreneurship for these first generation immigrants, in particular why these immigrants choose to be exporters. In-depth interviews were conducted with a dataset of 58 entrepreneurs of Indian origin of whom 11 were involved in exporting from New Zealand. Recent studies on transnational entrepreneurship suggest that migrant entrepreneur plays an increasingly significant role as sources of economic activities and especially export revenue. The literature is, however, biased on the US experience, lacks a comparative perspective between migrants and non-migrants and is primarily anecdotal in nature. In this paper, we explore mining in Arctic Canada from the perspective of the people on the communities there, in particular the Inuit, the pre-colonial people of the area. To do so, we first provide a brief overview of the history of mining in Canada including recent incursions into Nunavut. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of type of governance on financial policy and financial performance of micro-family-owned businesses in Canada. This study utilised survey research (a non-experimental field study design). Micro-family-business owners from Western Canada were asked about their beliefs, perceptions and feelings regarding type of governance, financial policy and financial performance. The findings of this study indicate that type of governance positively impacts financial policy. The results also show that both type of governance and financial policy positively impact the financial performance of the micro-family-owned businesses in Canada. Persian carpets have long been an important commodity in the world market, largely controlled by the Tehran Carpet Bazaar and the Hamburg Free Harbour. Interviews were conducted amongst Persian carpet traders in European centres, providing a historical overview and allowing us to identify trends. The paper discusses the pre-modern bazaar and the authors observe changes in the sector as Persian carpets can now be sourced from new entrants competing with traditional manufacturers. This article examines the relationship between market orientation and entrepreneurship in small to medium-sized second-generation Chinese family businesses. Market orientation is captured through a multi-dimensional framework, which defines a spectrum between a market orientation pole and a family orientation pole. The Schumpeterian tradition is adopted in entrepreneurship investigation, which emphasises the innovation outcomes. Findings are discussed by using a socialisation view. Analysis indicates that the owner-manager’s socialisation patterns have a significant impact on the firm’s entrepreneurial processes, which nuances the relationship between market orientation

In this country, entrepreneurship in terms of willingness to take the risk of setting up a business is at the lowest level in international comparison surveys such as the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor. This article investigates the underground economy in Belgium. Although several government initiatives are attempting to combat underground economic activities, we found illegal foreign workers identifying opportunities and fulfilling market needs. Underground employment thus thrives in a variety of sectors, including the building sector, cleaning houses, delivery jobs, garage business horticulture, hotels, industrial cleaning, and social work.

The Waipara case study contributes to understanding developments in wine production clusters over time, in particular the coopetition relationship between cluster members. This longitudinal analysis is based on two primary data collection stages using semi-structured interviews. Formalizing cluster actions and strengthening collaboration among its members seem to contribute to developing a collaborative spirit. This strengthened collaboration hinders competition whereas the latter would seem to be indispensable for the coopetitive strategy’s success.
