Are We Really Brands?, Trent Hennessey

Trent Hennessey

In 1969, Philip Kotler and Sidney Levy argued the frontiers of marketing could be expanded to include the health, education and arts sectors, places and ideas… and people. But are we really brands? A Typology Of Men’S Conceptualizations Of Ideal Masculinity In Advertising, Linda Zayer

Linda Tuncay Zayer

This study explores men‟s conceptualizations of ideal masculinity in advertising. Specifically, this research uses a qualitative approach to examine a segment of men who fall into the Generation X cohort. These men, many of whom are Caucasian and single, are largely educated, from the Midwest, and outwardly heterosexual. Exploratory findings reveal the salience of eight themes of ideal masculinity. These include the Adventurer, the Athlete, the Attractive Man, the Daredevil, the Family Man, the Goal Driven Man, the Individual, and the Strong Man. Three themes exemplifying the antithesis of ideal masculinity−the Player, the Partier, and the Slob−also emerged. This research …

A Trination Analysis Of Social Exchange Relationships In E-Dating, Sudhir Kale, Mark Spence

Mark Spence

More than half a billion users across the globe have availed themselves of e-dating services. This chapter looks at the marketing and cross-cultural aspects of mate-seeking behavior in e-dating. We content analyzed 238 advertisements from online matrimonial sites in three countries: India (n=79), Hong Kong (n=80), and Australia (n=79). Frequencies of mention of the following ten attribute categories in the advertiser’s self-description were established using post hoc quantitative analysis: love, physical status, educational status, intellectual status, occupational status, entertainment services, money, demographic information, ethnic information, and personality traits. Past research on mate selection using personal ads and the three countries’ …

Change Management: Antecedents And Consequences In Casino Crm, Sudhir Kale

Sudhir H. Kale

Customer Relationship Management (CRM) continues to attract increasing attention within the casino industry. While the vital role of change management in making CRM projects successful has been acknowledged for quite some time, there is little in extant literature to explain the nature and conduct of change management in the CRM context. This article posits that relevant change management is a prerequisite for successful implementation of a casino's CRM. Change management involves five key initiatives: selling change internally, creating an appropriate infrastructure for change management, CRM-relevant training, a reconfiguration of the organization structure and performance assessment measures, and recasting existing incentive …

Internal Marketing: An Antidote For Macau's Labor Shortage, Sudhir Kale Jan 2010

Internal Marketing: An Antidote For Macau's Labor Shortage, Sudhir Kale

Sudhir H. Kale

Gaming scholars the world over are in consensus about Macau's bright future as a gaming Mecca. The phenomenal growth in gaming facilities over the last three years has created an acute labor shortage in this Special Administrative Region of China. Moreover, around twenty additional gaming and hotel projects have been committed so far, all slated for completion in the next five years. Expansion on such massive scale will further intensify competition among employers to recruit and retain employees, particularly if the provincial government maintains its current restrictions on importing labor into the region. One, and arguably the only way to …

Laurence Minsky

Objective, external feedback can provide the backup academic departments need to “drive” programmatic and institutional improvements. This session will offer successful approaches for recruiting independent professionals and working with them to develop assessment rubrics to objectively measure student learning on programmatic and institutional levels. At the end of the session, participants will be able to (1) identify potential assessors for curriculum and/or program; (2) develop a strategy for identifying and recruiting independent assessors and; (3) generate talking points with instructions to communicate expectations and assessment methods to get usable, valid results and data.

Co-Creation: An Exploratory Investigation Into The Construct And Its Dimensions, Joanna Minkiewicz, Jody Evans, Kerrie Bridson

Dr. Joanna Minkiewicz

Whilst the body of work around co-creation has grown, the construct has been viewed from multiple perspectives, with the literature generally bereft of a coherent, holistic theoretical framework. This paper aims to develop a more comprehensive conceptualization of co-creation by exploring it comprehensively to provide a deeper understanding of the underlying dimensions. Case study research using exemplar organizations, utilizing in-depth interviews with key informants, was used to investigate the manifestations of co-creation in the context of the heritage sector. The findings illuminate the prevalence of deliberate co-creation strategies in all case study organisations, revealing three facets of co-creation: personalization, engagement …

How Much Risk Can You Handle?: The Development Of A New Risk Tolerance Questionnaire, Courtney Droms, William Droms

Courtney M. Droms

As we have all witnessed over the past few years with the economic downturn that has faced the world, individuals and corporations have been extremely risky with their investments in an effort to capitalize on high-risk and high-return investments. However, the global economy has been threatened by all of these risky investment decisions and there is now an effort underway by many financial institutions to overhaul the advice they give to both individual and corporate clients about the level of risk suggested for their portfolios (Mannes 2009). This research shows that an investor’s risk tolerance is not as stable as …
