The Effects Of Calcium On The Response Of Snapbean To Sodium-Induced Stress, Masud Ahmad Khan

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Soil salinity is a major concern to agriculture in arid and semiarid regions, where evapotranspiration causes salts originating from irrigation water (or sometimes naturally from the soil) to become concentrated in the rooting zone. In some areas, with good management, it has been economically feasible to ameliorate a sodic soil with Ca. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of Ca amelioration of salinity (sodicity) on biomass, number of nodules, number of pods, weight of pods, ion uptake, and photosynthesis of Phaseolus vulgaris L.

Plants were grown in one liter styrofoam pots under greenhouse conditions. In the …

Boundary Value Problems In Elasticity And Thermoelasticity, Stuart Davidson Apr 1990

Boundary Value Problems In Elasticity And Thermoelasticity, Stuart Davidson

Mathematics & Statistics Theses & Dissertations

In this dissertation the author solves a series of mixed boundary value problems arising from crack problems in elasticity and thermoelasticity. Using integral transform techniques and separation of variables appropriately, it is shown that the solutions can be found by solving a corresponding set of triple or dual integral equations in some instances, while in others the solutions of triple or dual series relations are required. These in turn reduce to various singular integral equations which are solved in closed form, in two cases, or by numerical methods. The stress intensity factors at the crack tips, the physical parameters of …

Plasma Catecholamine And Ascorbic Acid Levels In Smokers And Nonsmokers As A Function Of Stress, Audrey A. Wickiser May 1984

Plasma Catecholamine And Ascorbic Acid Levels In Smokers And Nonsmokers As A Function Of Stress, Audrey A. Wickiser

Student Work

Research on the relationship between the role of stress and blood catecholamine levels began in the early 60's. Studies since that time have shown that both physical and psychological stressors can cause an increase in the circulating levels of catecholamines. Epinephrine and norepinephrine are the catecholamines most implicated as being affected by stress. The results have not been clear as to whether the two catecholamines respond differentially to physical and psychological stress. Epinephrine secretion appears to increase in response to anxiety while norepinephrine may be related to aggression.
