The Effects Of Sludge On The Image Quality Of A Particular Film-Monobath Combination, Alfred Dilascia, Ronald Hubbard May 1966

The Effects Of Sludge On The Image Quality Of A Particular Film-Monobath Combination, Alfred Dilascia, Ronald Hubbard

Theses

Sludge is considered by many to be a factor limiting the usefulness of monobaths. A particular film-monobath combination was tested for the effects of sludge on sensitometry, granularity, and acutance. It was found that the presence of sludge did not alter the sensitometric characteristics; however, through solution usage, the acutance and granularity decreased. Removal of the sludge by filtration during usage resulted in improved image quality over the comparison solution in which sludge was allowed to accumulate.

A Historical Survey Of The Economic Development Of Mainland China, 1949-1962, Mandhatasinh A. Chauhan

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Chinese agriculture differs from the Western agriculture in the development and utilization of agricultural science on the fields. China has always been an agricultural country, but she failed to improve in techniques of cultivation as the time passed by. The land, prior to the Communist take-over, was owned and cultivated by individuals and the produce was sold in a free-market. Unfortunately, the Chinese government, prior to 1949, failed to bring about adequate agricultural reforms and implement economic development measures.

As a result an overwhelming proportion of the population of China is occupied on the land, the supply of which is …

The Impact Of Research And Development On Income And Employment In Utah, Thomas Clark Anderson

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Research and development (R&D) play an increasingly important role in the economy of the United States. Total expenditures for R&D during the decade of the 1950's were greater than in the entire history of the United States previous to that time. As a percent of gross national product, R&D has grown from 0.2 percent in 1921, to 0.4 to 0.6 percent in the 1930's and 1940's, and is now more than 3 percent.1

Much has been said of the impact that the growth of R&D has on the general economy. R&D had also had a significant economic and sociocultural …

Some Factors Involved In Growth And Sporulation Of Pilobolus Crystallinus Tode And Pilobolus Umbonatus Buller, Kenneth L. Poff Jun 1964

Some Factors Involved In Growth And Sporulation Of Pilobolus Crystallinus Tode And Pilobolus Umbonatus Buller, Kenneth L. Poff

Master's Theses

Pilobolus umbonatus Buller and P. crystallinus Tode grew normally in a nitrogen atmosphere but their sporagnia were non-pigmented. When palced in anaerobic jars along with obligately anaerobic and obligately aerobic bacteria, the fungi grew in the range of oxygen concentrations too low for growth of the aerobic bacterium, but high enough to prevent growth of the anaerobe. The fungi did not grow when the oxygen was depleted to the point that allowed growth of the anaerobic bacterium. Catalase was not produced by the hyphae and trophocysts which normally grow beneath the surface of the medium, but was present in the …

A History Of Timber Resource Use In The Development Of Cache Valley, Utah, Douglas M. Bird

It has long been realized that the forests and forest products contributed very significantly toward the economic development of the Western United States. However, the extent of this contribution over a relatively small area has never been fully analyzed. Therein lies the primary justification for this paper. The author hopes that the readers of this paper will, through their reading, gain some appreciation of the major role the forest and its products played in the development of the western community.

Because of some important social differences between the area described in this paper and other western communities, the history herein …

Some Effects Of Modern Weapons Systems Development On The American Economy, Maurice Braginsky May 1964

Some Effects Of Modern Weapons Systems Development On The American Economy, Maurice Braginsky

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The Cold War goes on! And the use of military strength by the United States as a backdrop to other forms of persuation--political, ideological, diplomatic, and economic--continues. The use of a military backdrop as an instrument of national policy will probably continue indefinitely because it is unlikely that the Soviet Union or Communist China will change their objectives of expansionism; it is too much an integral part of their ideology. The easing of tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union since the Cuban crisis in 1962 is perhaps an indication of a change in tactics and diplomacy, but …

Students are able to observe and participate in the nursery school laboratory through experiences in various courses. The culmination of their course work comes when, as juniors or seniors, they do student teaching in the nursery school.

The Effect Of Limited Moisture Supply At Various Stages Of Growth On The Development And Production Of Hybrid Corn, Ralph E. Campbell May 1954

The Effect Of Limited Moisture Supply At Various Stages Of Growth On The Development And Production Of Hybrid Corn, Ralph E. Campbell

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Corn occupies from 25 to 30 percent of the crop land harvested in the United States. In recent years the acreage devoted to corn in this country has been decidedly greater than that devoted to any other cultivated crop. In 1944 its dollar value exceeded the combined values of wheat, barley, rye, grain sorghums, and cotton.

Although South Dakota lies on the northwestern fringe of the corn belt, the corn crop is one of the most important in that state. Corn production in that area is somewhat unstable because of drought. Corn often fails to reach full maturity before the …

The roots of present-day concepts and practices of industrial arts in Utah extend back about fifty years to the first schools established by the Mormon pioneers. The first school, in its simple setting, faced such issues as: What kind of industrial arts training shall be provided? How much …

The Teaching Of Reading Affords One Of The Greatest Opportunities For The Development Of Character In The Junior High School, Dolores O. Johnson

Ability to read well is the most important ability that can be developed in the elementary school. Reading, properly mastered, not only renders excellent service throughout life but it greatly reduces the time and effort required to master the other school subjects. The elementary school, then, should strive to develop in each child the ability to read well. If it does this, it has succeeded in its most important work.
