Understanding The Other Side: The Traits Of Partners Of Individuals With Neurotic Traits In Committed Premarital Relationships, Ryan W. Blick Nov 2006

Understanding The Other Side: The Traits Of Partners Of Individuals With Neurotic Traits In Committed Premarital Relationships, Ryan W. Blick

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to identify the partners' traits and skills that predict relationship satisfaction in committed, premarital relationships in which one person has neurotic traits, as well as to examine the degree of consensus about neuroticism for both individuals. Data from 198 never-married, young adult, premarital couples who had completed the RELATionship Evaluation (RELATE) questionnaire were used in the analyses. Measures of perceived partner traits and skills included levels of empathic communication, clear sending, flooding, kindness, flexibility, criticism, and contempt and defensiveness. Relationship satisfaction as measured by RELATE was the criterion variable. Results showed little agreement between …

Library Internship: A Key To The Development Of Sustainable Professional Competence, Puttaraj Choukimath, Uma Choukimath, Muttayya M. Koganuramath

Puttaraj Choukimath

Obtaining a professional position in the field requires real world experience. Theoretical facets form the backbone, but exposure to real-life situations need not be ignored. 'Sustainable professional competencies' warrant for the continued education and training of the LIS professionals in general and the new entrants in particular. This paper discusses the prospects of the Library Internship Training and thereby advocates for its integration in the LIS curricula. It reveals that, there is much to gain from the Library Internship.

Notes On Identity, New Synonymy And Larva Of Ivalia Jacoby (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) With Description Of A New Species, Catherine N. Duckett, Kaniyarikkal Divakaran Prathapan, Alexander S. Konstantinov Nov 2006

Notes On Identity, New Synonymy And Larva Of Ivalia Jacoby (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) With Description Of A New Species, Catherine N. Duckett, Kaniyarikkal Divakaran Prathapan, Alexander S. Konstantinov

United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications

Genus Ivalia Jacoby is characterized morphologically, and Amphimeloides Jacoby syn. nov. and Taizonia Chen syn. nov. are junior synonyms with it. Several Ivalia species are figured, including Ivalia bella (Chen) comb. nov., I. dorsalis (Jacoby) comb. nov., and I. viridipennis Jacoby. A new species of Ivalia from the Nilgiri Hills in south India, I. korakundah sp. nov., is described and illustrated, including the larvae. Larvae were associated with adults by sequencing a fragment of the mitochondrial gene cytochrome oxidase I. Larval morphology is discussed and compared with that of other flea beetles.

United States Patent Application Publication: Counter Selection Strategy For Gram-Negative Bacteria, Stephen K. Farrand, Paul E. Staswick, Thomas E. Clemente

Center for Plant Science Innovation: Faculty and Staff Publications

A Gram-negative bacterium useful for genetically engineering plants is provided. The Gram-negative bacterium contains, as part of genome, an inducible regulatory sequence operatively linked to a nucleotide sequence encoding a levansucrase. Alternatively, the Gram-negative bacterium comprises a recombinant nucleic acid construct containing an inducible regulatory sequence operatively linked to a nucleotide sequence encoding a levansucrase. Also provided are recombinant nucleic acid constructs comprising an inducible regulatory sequence operatively coupled to a nucleotide sequence encoding a levansucrase and a method for transforming plants using the Gram-negative bacterium of the present invention.

Fluorescence Blinking Statistics From Cdse Core And Core/Shell Nanorods, S. Wang, C. Querner, Thomas B. Emmons , '08, M. Drndic, Catherine Hirshfeld Crouch

Physics & Astronomy Faculty Works

We report fluorescence blinking statistics measured from single CdSe nanorods (NRs) of seven different sizes with aspect ratios ranging from 3 to 11. This study also included core/shell CdSe/ZnSe NRs and core NRs with two different surface ligands producing different degrees of surface passivation. We compare the findings for NRs to our measurements of blinking statistics from spherical CdSe core and CdSe/ZnS core/shell nanocrystals (NCs). We find that, for both NRs and spherical NCs, the off-time probability distributions are well described by a power law, while the on-time probability distributions are best described by a truncated power law, P(tau(on)) similar …

Black Male Incarceration: The Role Of Childhood Oppositional Defiant Disorder And Conduct Disroder In Trajectories To Adulthood Psychopathy, Giraud Howard Hope Nov 2006

Black Male Incarceration: The Role Of Childhood Oppositional Defiant Disorder And Conduct Disroder In Trajectories To Adulthood Psychopathy, Giraud Howard Hope

Giraud Howard Hope

This study attempts to examine the role of adolescent disruptive behavioral disorders in trajectories to adult psychopathy, and a treatment paradigm to evoke change in those at risk. Current research studies suggest that calloused-unemotionality (CU) in adolescence and lower socioeconomic status (SES) are characteristics associated with antisocial personality disorder (APD) in adulthood, and thus the determining factor in such trajectories. Critical review of literature revealed individuals with APD are the same as those with psychopathy, and that such individuals are at risk of emotional detachment, imprisonment, homicide, and suicide. However, it is unclear whether the disproportionate number of Black male …

Properties Of Some Matrix Classes In Linear Complementarity Theory., Arup Kumar Das Dr. Nov 2006

Properties Of Some Matrix Classes In Linear Complementarity Theory., Arup Kumar Das Dr.

Doctoral Theses

The linear complementarity problem is a fundamental problem that arises in optimization, game theory, economics, and engineering. It can be stated as follows:Given a square matrix A of order n with real entries and an n dimensional vector q, find n dimensional vectors w and z satisfying w − Az = q, w ≥ 0, z ≥ 0 (1.1.1) w t z = 0. (1.1.2)This problem is denoted as LCP(q, A). The name comes from the condition (1.1.2), the complementarity condition which requires that at least one variable in the pair (wj , zj ) should be equal to 0 …

Jfk Blown Away -- Hooray! Kennedy's Dallas Visit Roiled Hate Groups, Donald E. Wilkes Jr. Nov 2006

Jfk Blown Away -- Hooray! Kennedy's Dallas Visit Roiled Hate Groups, Donald E. Wilkes Jr.

Popular Media

Exactly 43 years ago, on Nov. 22, 1963, 46-year old President John F. Kennedy was assassinated at 12:30 p.m. in Dealey Plaza in downtown Dallas, TX.

Dallas was then, as Matthew Smith notes in JFK: THE SECOND PLOT (1992), "the southwest hate capital of Dixie... In its politics and in its people, Dalls represented the right wing as far as it could go." Before and during his Dallas visit, local right-wingers busied themselves to make JFK unwelcome. They were angry and indignant that JFK was coming to their city. In fact, at the very time shots were being fired at …
