An Augustinian Analysis Of The Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, Jon Mcclendon White Jan 2000

An Augustinian Analysis Of The Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, Jon Mcclendon White

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Applying the Christian principles of depraved human nature, expectation of detrimental behavior from irrational actors, and rational attempts to limit the destructiveness of war, Augustine would conclude that the declared nuclear weapons states have a moral obligation to prevent proliferation of nuclear weapons. Laws suitable to the needs of the times are the appropriate method for accomplishing this. The pending Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) is one such law. Because the CTBT bans all nuclear explosions and establishes an intrusive inspection scheme, it will have an impact on the U. S. Department of Energy (DoE). DoE should respond by participating …

The Effects Of Spiritual Care Nursing Education On Nurses' Comfort In The Delivery Of Spiritual Care, Carmen E Sterling-Fisher Jan 2000

The Effects Of Spiritual Care Nursing Education On Nurses' Comfort In The Delivery Of Spiritual Care, Carmen E Sterling-Fisher

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Spiritual care of patients has been an important part of nursing since Florence Nightingale's days, although the spiritual nature of nursing care is often overlooked in today's nursing community. According to Highfield (1992) and Lilley (1987), issues regarding the physical and psychosocial aspects of nursing care continue to predominate nursing literature despite the long standing documented value of spiritual aspects of nursing care (Burkhardt and Nagai-Jacobson, 1994; Robinson, 1994 and Ross, 1994), resulting in limited available learning opportunities related to spiritual care. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of an educational intervention concerning spiritual nursing care …

Experimental Investigation Of Natural Convection About Drift-Emplaced Waste Canisters, Qun Wang Jan 2000

Experimental Investigation Of Natural Convection About Drift-Emplaced Waste Canisters, Qun Wang

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Drift-emplaced waste canisters are under consideration for the long-term storage of high-level spent fuel in the proposed underground repository at Yucca Mountain. These canisters will be placed on pedestals above the floor of the drift and exchange heat with the wall of the drift with air circulating through the repository. To assess the requirements for repository energy management and the ventilation system, flow visualization and heat transfer experiments for natural convection were performed. The experiments used both the smoke generation and the dye injection techniques to obtain the natural convection patterns for 4.9 {dollar}\times{dollar} 10{dollar}\sp4{dollar} {dollar}\le{dollar} Ra{dollar}\sb{\rm d}{dollar} {dollar}\le{dollar} 1.6 …

The five constructs are: Management, Location, Ambiance, Marketing and Financial Strength. Due …

Beliefs Of Teachers And Principals Regarding Iste's 2000 Technology Standards For All Teachers, Essington R Wade Jan 2000

Beliefs Of Teachers And Principals Regarding Iste's 2000 Technology Standards For All Teachers, Essington R Wade

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to ascertain if there were significant differences in the way teachers and principals articulated their beliefs about technology standards for all teachers. In comparing secondary principals to secondary teachers using the statistical instruments, it was found that the variables: secondary levels (middle and high) and positions (principal, English, math, science and social studies teachers) were not significantly different. In addition, the statistical analysis indicated that there were no significant interactions between secondary levels and educational positions. Examination of the mean values and the frequency distributions of teachers and principals revealed that the means of …

Density Functional Calculations Of Rubidium Under Pressure, Anthony Jon Zukaitis Jan 2000

Density Functional Calculations Of Rubidium Under Pressure, Anthony Jon Zukaitis

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

With developments in X-ray diffractometry, experimentalists have been able to resolve the complex structures that had eluded them in the past. One area of this interest is in the regime of alkali metals under pressure. For years, the alkali metals have been viewed as simple systems whose properties can be understood with fairly simple ideas. Under pressure, things get interesting and one observes complex crystal structures in all of the alkali metals under high enough pressure. What is more interesting is that there appears to be many similarities in the phase diagrams of the alkali metals. This hints that this …
