Bioinformatic Analysis: Retroposon Sequences Containing Multiple Putative Endonucleases, Seanna Kathleen Corro Jan 2000

Bioinformatic Analysis: Retroposon Sequences Containing Multiple Putative Endonucleases, Seanna Kathleen Corro

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Among the retroposons, the source of the endonuclease activity is known to be variable. We investigated whether any retroposon genomes encode potential multiple endonuclease functions. Amino acid alignments were generated to reveal the presence of the characterized ordered-series-of-motifs (OSM) that define four different endonuclease functions. These endonuclease functions include a retroviral-like integrase (IN), an apurinic-apyrimidinic endonuclease (APE), the PDD endonuclease recently identified in the R2BM retroposon and an HNH endonuclease signature conserved by the group 11 intron sequences. The results indicate that the spliced l eader associated conserved sequences (SLACS) of T. brucei, c ruzi-associated retrotransposon (CZAR) of Trypanosoma cruzi, …

Partitioning Of Large Hdl Asic Designs Into Multiple Fpga Devices For Prototyping And Verification, Nilesh V Dhavlikar Jan 2000

Partitioning Of Large Hdl Asic Designs Into Multiple Fpga Devices For Prototyping And Verification, Nilesh V Dhavlikar

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

The ASIC (Application specific Integrated Circuit) designs grow continuously bigger and bigger. This causes dramatic increase in the simulation run time. It is very hard to simulate these designs because the simulation time has risen from hours to days and weeks. Hardware Embedded Simulation (HES) is a technology that facilitates incremental design verification of ASICs. The FPGAs (Field Programmable Gate Arrays) can play an important role in ASIC design cycle. But it is not possible to fit an entire ASIC design into a single FPGA device. This problem can be solved by partitioning the given design into multiple small size …

Using Comics To Teach Multiple Meaning Of Words, Robin Carin Stall Jan 2000

Using Comics To Teach Multiple Meaning Of Words, Robin Carin Stall

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

The purpose of the study was to investigate the efficacy of using comics to teach the multiple meanings of words to students with language and learning disabilities. Three research hypotheses were tested: (1) there will be a statistically significant difference in learning multiple meanings of words between subjects who received instruction with comics and subjects who received instruction without comics; (2) there will be a statistically significant increase in the subjects' perceived abilities to learn and remember words with multiple meanings after instruction using comics; and (3) there will be a statistically significant change in the subjects' interest in reading …

Control Of Multiple Tele-Operated Robotic Bridge Transporters For Remote Handling Of Hazardous Material, T. R Venkatesh Jan 2000

Control Of Multiple Tele-Operated Robotic Bridge Transporters For Remote Handling Of Hazardous Material, T. R Venkatesh

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

The objective of this research is to develop control of a multiple telerobot system based on Direct Numerical Processing Technology and propose a practically implementable collision avoidance algorithm for two gantry type robots sharing a common workspace; The tele-operatic set-up consists of two Robotic Bridge Transporters which are X-Y-Z positioning overhead bridge type cranes. These cranes consisting of three sub-assemblies for the X, Y and Z motions respectively are actuated by brushless servo drive motors. The DC motors are controlled by Modicon FA3240 automation controllers from a supervisory control station equipped with computer graphics based human-machine interface. Teleoperation is achieved …
