Putin's Pivot: Understanding The Evolution Of Russia's Anti-Western Stance, Nicole Fernandez
Political Analysis
Nicole Fernandez is a first-generation student who majors in political science and minors in criminal justice. She aspires to become an attorney who practices immigration law. During her senior thesis class, the topic of Russian-American relations immediately captured her interest, as she watched a documentary detailing Putin's evolving interactions with the last five American presidents the summer before. Witnessing the dynamic shifts in these relationships over time piqued her curiosity about Russia's increasingly anti-Western stance. Administrators’ Perceptions Of School Resource Officers’ Preparedness To Work With Black Girls, Kashon N. Lopes

School safety is a topic of concern across the nation today because images of mass shootings and violence in schools receive heavy media coverage. Different strategies have been enacted to keep people safe including metal detectors, video surveillance, strict discipline policies, and armed personnel. Some of these strategies such as zero tolerance policies and school resource officers have received scrutiny from activist groups such the American Civil Liberties Union because they are attributed with the trend known as the school-to-prison pipeline (ACLU, 2013). Relational Empowerment Among Public Safety Outreach Workers And Violence Interventionists In U.S. Cities: A Qualitative Inquiry, Christopher M. Thompson

The nation-wide uprisings for racial justice in the Summer of 2020 brought into mainstream awareness the calls to shift resources away from police departments and channel funds to mental health, education, and other social services. However, in the wake of recent post-pandemic surges in community violence, police budgets increased, while public opinion for grassroots, radical initiatives like “defund the police” that many activists, organizers, and abolitionists pushed into public consciousness has faltered. Studies have shown that the implementation of community-led public safety programs significantly reduce incidents of street violence in U.S. cities.
