This study presents an in-depth social science examination of the 2011 Root Magazine’s rankings of the 100 most influential young Black Americans aged 25 to 45. Among the variables examined in this study are: place of birth, average age, gender/sex, skin tone, institutions where college or university degrees were earned, states and countries where those colleges or universities are located, and professions/job types.

This paper claims that although there has been a significant increase in the number of scholarly publica-tions on interracial marriages in the United States in recent decades, most of these publications tend to focus on the small but visible increase in marriages, co-habitations and dating; how Whites or European Gentile Americans are gradually becoming accepting of these relationships; the factors that are causing non-Blacks to “reject” Blacks; and specifically factors that are causing White men and other non-Black men to “reject” Black women. Educational Attainment, Population Increase And The Progress Of African Americans, Amadu Jacky Kaba

This paper claims that African Americans are making consistent progress in college or university enrollment and degree attainment. These gains in educational attainment have led to a substantial proportion of African Americans to rise in many important sectors of society, such as business, the military and politics. However, there is a concern that unlike the Asian and Hispanic populations in the United States, proportionally, the African American population is not increasing as rapidly. This slow annual growth of the African American population may have both economic and political implications in the years and decades to come.

Killing Capital Punishment In New Jersey: The First State In Modern History To Repeal Its Death Penalty Statute., Robert J. Martin

This article examines how opponents of the death penalty were successful in lobbying and eventually achieving statutory repeal of New Jersey’s death penalty statute in December 2007. The primary goal of the article is to offer inspiration and guidance for similar efforts in the thirty-five states that still authorize capital punishment. In reviewing lessons learned from New Jersey, the article demonstrates that abolition proved both difficult and doubtful. Led by a small group of organizers and sympathetic legislators, the advocates of abolition faced multiple challenges.
