One of the key uses of flow cytometry is the estimation of nuclear DNA content and ploidy level, which has proven a reliable and effective approach in many studies. The primary goal of this research is to estimate the nuclear DNA content and ploidy level of the apple genetic resource collection maintained in the Fruit Research Institute?s living Malus collection for the first time using flow cytometry (for autochthonous varieties). The WRKY transcription factors (TFs) family is an important family of plant-specific TFs, playing vital roles in various abiotic and biotic stress responses. WRKY TFs are gaining considerable attention due to their significant roles in stress responses. However, their functions in sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) are lagging behind. In this study, a WRKY gene designated as SbWRKY45 was isolated and characterized from sorghum. SbWRKY45, belonging to Group IIa, consists of one intron and two exons and encodes 430 amino acids. The present study includes the results of the second benthic macrophytes? monitoring period of a survey of ecological status from the Turkish coasts. The biotic index Ecological Evaluation Index (EEI-c) was used to assess the ecological status classes (ESC) and MA-LUSI the anthropogenic pressures. Sampling was made by the quadrat (20 × 20 cm) method, and the samples were collected from 93 sites in Turkish coastal waters between 2017 and 2019. A new species, Satureja hasturkii, is described using morphological characters and molecular studies in this study. The new species is closely related to S. hortensis but differs from it by very lax thyrsoid inflorescence, longer pedicels, shorter calyx, upper and lower calyx teeth, and corolla. In order to support the morphological data, molecular studies are also done using nrITS and cptrnL-F gene regions. nrITS data gives better results in phylogenetic analysis. Two new fossil species based on the study of wood remains and leaf imprints from the middle Eocene Çekerek Formation (central-northern part of Turkey) are assigned to the palm family Arecaceae. Standard thin sections from the two samples of fossil wood were investigated and identified as Palmoxylon sabaloides Greguss 1969, with close xylotomical affinities to the modern genus Sabal Adans. The leaf imprints are weakly costapalmate and correspond to the genus Sabal as well. Based on the short petiole extension (costa), the leaves resemble the fossil-species Sabal lamanonis (Brongn.) This work was aimed to explore the efficacy of activated charcoal (5 mg g-1 soil) in abating fluoride (25 mg L-1 NaF) stress in rice seedlings, since the protective role of charcoal is widely reported against other forms of abiotic stress. Application of NaF solution reduced germination rate, dry and fresh weight, and shoot and root length of seedlings. Extensive fluoride accumulation lowered the chlorophyll level along with higher electrolyte leakage and formation of H2 O2 , malondialdehyde, and methylglyoxal. The effects of drought stress on plant growth and development are getting more pronounced due to increasing influence of climate change on environmental stresses. Current study was devised to explore the drought effects on eight commercial carrot cultivars, having different root colors as a base for further studies to understand the response of carrot. Drought stress for 10 days was applied to carrot plants at taproot formation stage in semicontrolled greenhouse. A New Species Of Arrhenia (Agaricales, Hygrophoraceae) From Guizhou Province, China, Jing Wang, Huan Gao, Dong Mei Liu, Chun Ying Deng, Shao Qi Zhou

Arrhenia nivea is a new bryophilous species of Arrhenia from a valley in southwestern China'a subtropical monsoon humid climate zone.The species is characterized by pure white basidiomata with an irregularly discoid to cupulate 1.5-4.5 mm diameter pileus, reduced hymenium, nonamyloid basidiospores, lack of cystidia, the presence of clamps, and no incrusted pigment of the pileipellic hyphae. Phylogenetic analysis using ITS sequence data confirmed that it arised from a pathway separate from other species of Arrhenia.

This paper revises the genus Nepeta for the family Lamiaceae for the Flora of Iraq project. We describe a new species, Nepeta iraqensis, and four new records Nepeta congesta subsp. cryptantha, N. stricta, N. lamiifolia and N. iodantha for Iraq. Lectotypes for six taxa are selected and comments on complex species are given. In addition, two new synonyms are given here for the first time. In all, we describe with identification keys, 19 taxa, three of which are endemic to Iraq.

The carob tree, which is a member of the Fabaceae family, is an agrosilvopastoral tree whose pre-Mediterranean tropical origin appears well established on the basis of genetic, fossil and physiological data. C. siliqua has recently been successfully introduced from the Mediterranean basin to other parts of the world that have a Mediterranean climate. Solanum torvum is robust to Verticillium and some bacterial wilts and root-knot nematode. Scutellaria yildirimlii is an endangered perennial endemic species from Turkey and belongs to the family Lamiaceae, which has a high number of medicinal and aromatic plants. It is crucial to determine genetic diversity and population structure of this species for its conservation measures; therefore, 111 individuals from five natural populations of S. yildirimlii were investigated by using 15 inter simple sequence repeats (ISSR) primers. Cheilocostus speciosus (Syn: Costus speciosus) (Crepe or spiral ginger) is one of the species of the family Costaceae that is widely used in various traditional medicines for treating various ailments. Mokko lactone (ML) belongs to the guaianolide family of sesquiterpenes, which has been separated from C. speciosus. It showed noticeable antiinflammation and antioxidative capacities. The current study explored the ML hepatoprotective potential against FHF (fulminant hepatic failure) in mice. : The lichens serve as an ecological niche for a group of unexplored fungal species residing inside their thallus without causing any noticeable symptoms and such fungi are termed as endolichenic fungi. The objective of the current study is to check the endolichenic fungal diversity within lichen genus Parmotrema. The study resulted in a total of 450 endolichenic fungi (ELF) isolates from 15 species of Parmotrema. Out of these, 73 sporulating isolates were identified using ITS sequences which resulted in 47 species under 23 genera. Tanacetum isfahanicum Sonboli and Naderifar (Compositae-Anthemideae) is described as a new species from Isfahan and Fars provinces of Iran. It belongs morphologically to Tanacetum sect Xanthoglossa and differs from its the closest relative, T. polycephalum, by shape of basal and cauline leaves, shape of capitula, length and width of involucre and color of achene ribs. The phylogenetic position of the new species within the genus Tanacetum is established based on nrDNA ITS sequences variation and its close relationship with T. polycephalum is corroborated.

Plants activate glutathione (GSH)-dependent detoxification pathways at biochemical and molecular levels under boron (B) toxicity. Sulfate uptake and transport are necessary for GSH biosynthesis in plants. Therefore, the transcriptional regulation of some sulfate transporters was determined in this study to clarify the importance of these transporters in leaf and root tissues of Arabidopsis thaliana under toxic B conditions. The expression level of SULTR1;3 was dramatically increased in leaf and root tissues under moderate and severe toxic B conditions, suggesting source-to-sink sulfate translocation under B toxicity. Plantago is a cosmopolitan genus with approximately 200 species and various infrageneric classifications have been reported. In this study, the seed morphologies of 19 species of Plantago from Iran were studied and documented in detail using scanning electron microscopy and light microscopy. The studied species were grouped by using statistical analyses such as a minimum spherical cluster method based on Euclidean distance, principal coordinate analysis, and multidimentional scaling. Soil metal pollution is a concern in bauxite tailing areas. This study aimed to effectively screen plants with strong tolerance to metal contamination by analyzing the levels of metals in Barbula rigidula (Hedw.) Mild. (BR), Barbula indica (Hook.) Spreng. (BI), and Barbula vinealis Brid. (BV) and in soils. The contents of metals in mosses obtained from the bauxite tailing area followed the following order: Al > Fe > Zn > Cu. The members of the genera are distributed particularly in moist habitats from subpolar to tropical regions.This paper aims to provide improvements in the phylogeny of the genera Epilobium and Chamaenerion using Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) of nuclear DNA and matK gene sequence data evaluation with maximum parsimony, maximum likelihood, and Bayesian inference criterations. Two popular cultivars of tuberose (Agave amica (Medik.) Theide and Govaerts syn. Polianthes tuberosa L.) from the family Asparagaceae, widely cultivated for floricultural purposes are ,'Calcutta Single' (CS) and 'Calcutta Double' (CD). It was evidenced that CS flowers emit intense scent volatiles as compared to CD flowers, while CD flowers retained higher contents of internal pool of scent volatiles than CS flowers. Such contrasting observations between the flowers of two cultivars suggest the role of possible barriers such as cuticles that prevent the emission of scent volatiles. The marine macroalgae species are recognized as the food of the future with excellent bioactive properties. This study aimed to investigate phenolic compounds; cytotoxic, antibacterial, and antioxidant activities; total phenolic (TPC) and flavonoid (TFC) contents of the methanol, ethanol, and water extracts of Padina pavonica (PP) and Zanardinia typus (ZT). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report in which ZT was evaluated in terms of phenolic content, antioxidant, antibacterial, and cytotoxic activities. The morphological characteristics of seeds are not affected by environmental factors and can be used to identify the Euphorbia taxa. The present study aims to determine the morphological characteristics of seeds in 27 taxa of Euphorbia using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and light microscope (LM). Findings revealed that the seeds of Euphorbia show variation in size, color, and seed surface ornamentations among different species. The seeds vary also in shape from ovoid, ellipsoidal, globose, quadrangular, compressed, to compressed-ellipsoidal with two exceptions in E. petiolata (oblong--quadrangular truncate), E. macrocarpa (subglobose), and E. szovitsii var. kharputensis(ellipsoidal quadrangular truncate). The aim of the present study was to examine the diversity for heat tolerance in a set of 105 accessions using some key morphophysiological attributes. The data was standardized by calculating percent change over control, and used for phonetic analysis and construction of dendograms based on distance matrix (all primary data is given as supplementary material listed in statistical analysis section of Materials and Methods). Karayomorphological analysis and monoploid genome size (2Cx DNA) of 12 Iranian Medicago monantha populations are reported. Flow cytometric analysis were conducted on freshly collected seeds, using Solanum lycopersicum cv. Stupicke (2C DNA = 1.96 pg), as the internal reference standard. All populations were diploid with variable degrees of mixoploidy and two different chromosome numbers within each population. Totally, six chromosome numbers of 22, 28, 30, 32, 36, and 40 were identified. Twotyped chromosomes ("m", "sm") with a mean length of 1.65 µm (0.98-2.99 ?m) formed seven different karyotype formulas.
