Orchids are considered recalcitrant plants in in vitro propagation. Due to the lack of appropriate micropropagation techniques for mass production and damage to their ecological distribution posed by local gatherers, these species are threatened with extinction, including Serapias vomeracea (Burm.f.) Briq. In this research, we put forward a complete micropropagation method covering in vitro micropropagation, synthetic seed formation, germination in soil, and acclimatization to ambient conditions. This study is a first tentative attempt to understand the driving abiotic factors affecting the distribution of 7 oak taxa and 3 hybrids in Lebanon and to elucidate differences amongst the ecological niche. A field survey was conducted all over Lebanon, where taxa at 91 points were georeferenced and inventoried. GIS tools were used to overlay attributed data for the studied parameters including biogeographic, bioclimatic, and orographic parameters. Punica granatum L. (Wild) is an important fruit-yielding species of the world and a source of income for people, particularly in the Hindukush-Himalayas of Pakistan. Considering its ecological and commercial importance, an attempt was made to provide a primary assessment of its compositional pattern with relation to environmental variables for ecologically unexplored Punica granatum forests located in a subtropical dry temperate zone using multivariate techniques. A detailed micromorphological analysis of the labellum was carried out using both light and scanning electron microscopy on 14 genera (Anacamptis, Cephalanthera, Coeloglossum, Dactylorhiza, Gymnadenia, Himantoglossum, Limodorum, Neottia, Orchis, Ophrys, Platanthera, Serapias, Spiranthes, and Steveniella) of Orchidaceae in Turkey. In the samples, various epidermal features were identified in the spur that developmentally are invaginations of the labellum and the adaxial surface of the labellum. Orbicule characteristics and pollen morphology were studied using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy with 13 species of Oxalis section Alpinae, endemic to South America. Orbicules are either homogeneous or heterogeneous in size; surface smooth or with punctuations; margin smooth, lobed, or wavy; rounded, oblong, or irregular shapes; variable clustering. According to orbicule characteristics, six groups are proposed. Arbuscular Mycorrhizal And Dark Septate Endophyte Fungal Associations In Asparagus, Muthukumar Thangavelu, Muthuraja Raji

We studied the arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) and dark septate endophyte (DSE) fungal associations in five species of pot-grown Asparagus (A. aethiopicus, A. densiflorus, A. setaceus, A. racemosus, and A. umbellatus). Root colonization by AM and DSE fungi and AM spore numbers in the soil were assessed. AM fungal diversity indices like species richness, Shannon-Weiner index, Simpson's index, evenness, and Jaccard's index were determined. Relationships among the fungal and soil variables were also examined. All the species of Asparagus examined were colonized by both AM and DSE fungi, and these associations have been reported for the first time in four species. …

Campanula raddeana Trautv. (Campanulaceae), based on samples collected from Çıldır (A9 Ardahan), and Galatella cretica Gand. (Asteraceae), based on samples collected from Marmaris (C1 Muğla), were recorded as new findings for the Flora of Turkey. In addition, Silene samia Melzh. & Christod. (Caryophyllaceae) was confirmed in Turkey based on samples from four localities in southwest Anatolia. Detailed descriptions, locality information, and distribution maps of the cited taxa were also given in the present study.

Benthic algal flora of Karagöl Lake, its seasonal variation, and the physical and chemical parameters of the water were studied between October 2008 and September 2010. The algal flora consisted of 112 taxa belonging to the divisions Charophyta (41), Chlorophyta (33), Cyanobacteria (18), Euglenozoa (17), Miozoa (2), and Ochrophyta (1). Six desmid taxa found in this research are new records for the freshwater algal flora of Turkey. The qualitative dominance of benthic taxa typical of slightly alkaline and mesotrophic ecosystems was observed. The qualitative and seasonal variations in epipelic taxa analyzed were dependent on the physicochemical characteristics of the water. …

The long-neglected lichen described as Cladonia trapezuntica was rediscovered at its type locality in Turkey thanks to historical maps available at the Natural History Museum in Vienna. Molecular, morphological, and chemical analyses were applied to determine whether C. Trapezuntica is a distinct species or rather falls within the phenotypic variation of Pycnothelia papillaria. Although most of the podetia appear to be unusual for P. Papillaria, the molecular evidence indicates that C. Trapezuntica should be considered as a synonym of P. Seasonal distribution, abundance, and external morphological changes of Ceratium hirundinella in the Kralkızı and Dicle dam reservoirs on the Tigris River were investigated during 1 year (February 2008 to January 2009). This species was present in both dam reservoirs during all 4 seasons. The highest mean density of C. Hirundinella in Kralkızı Dam Reservoir was recorded in December, while in Dicle Dam Reservoir it was highest in June. C. Matthiola species native to Turkey were collected from various locations in Anatolia, and their DNA was isolated. Revision studies performed on the basis of molecular data obtained from studies conducted in recent years have made the phylogenetic relationships and systematic positions of the taxa more apparent and reliable. Dichoropetalum alanyensis Bilgili, Sağıroğlu and H.Duman, a new species from South Anatolia in Turkey (Antalya-Alanya), is described and illustrated. It is closely related to D. Chryseum (Boiss. And Heldr. Ex Boiss.) Pimenov and Kljuykov, from which it differs mainly by its habit, basal leaves and lobes, and mericarp features. Diagnostic morphological characters are discussed. Notes are also given on its ecology and conservation status, together with scanning electron micrographs of mericarp surface sculpturing pattern. ITS sequences were used for DNA fingerprinting. In this study, the phytosociological structure of floodplain forests in the Euxine region of Turkey was examined from a large-scale perspective. In this study, the achene surfaces of 31 taxa belonging to the genus Centaurea L. Were examined in detail by means of electron microscopy. The main aim of this study was to characterize the microsculpture of the achene surface of the Turkish species of Centaurea sect. Acrolophus (Cass.) DC. (Asteraceae). Detailed descriptions of the achene surface were given for each taxon and a fruitful dendrogram was established by numerical analyses derived from the determined micromorphological features. Onosma malatyana Binzet is described and illustrated as a new species from Malatya and Tunceli provinces in eastern Anatolia, Turkey. The new species belongs to sect. Onosma L. Subsect. Asterotricha (Boiss.) Gürke. And is closely similar to O. Auriculata DC. And O. Gigantea Lam. Diagnostic morphological and palynological characters of these species are compared and discussed. Phylogenetic relationships among the species of Hellenocarum and its close allies (Umbelliferae-Apioideae) were investigated using nuclear (ITS, ETS) and plastid (psbA-trnH intergenic spacer) DNA sequences. The results obtained were supplemented with an examination of morphology from herbarium and field-collected materials, as well as details of fruit anatomy obtained from light and scanning electron microscopy. According to the molecular data, Hellenocarum is not monophyletic. New Macrofungi Records From Turkey And Macrofungal Diversity Of Pozantı-Adana, Hasan Hüseyi̇n Doğan, Fevzi̇ Kurt

The present study reports on macrofungi species collected from 2003 to 2012 in Pozantı. In the field and during laboratory studies, 157 taxa belonging to 2 divisions and 51 families were identified. Among them, 8 families and 12 taxa belong to Ascomycota, and 43 families and 145 taxa belong to Basidiomycota. Moreover, 10 taxa"Dumontinia tuberosa, Lycoperdon lambinonii, Conocybe mesospora, Pholiotina striipes, Hebeloma sordidum, Antrodia ramentacea, Leucogyrophana romellii, Diplomitoporus flavescens, Alutaceodontia alutacea, and Tulasnella violea"were found in the Turkish mycobiota for the first time.

The tetraploid fern Cryptogramma crispa (L.) R.Br. Ex Hook. İs distributed across alpine and high latitude regions of Europe and western Asia and is sympatric with the recently described octoploid C. Bithynica S.Jess., L.Lehm. And Bujnoch in north-central Turkey. Our analysis of a 6-region plastid DNA sequence dataset comprising 39 accessions of Cryptogramma R.Br., including 14 accessions of C. Crispa and one accession of C. Bithynica, revealed a deep genetic division between the accessions of C. Crispa from western, northern, and central Europe and the accessions of C. Crispa and C. The main objective of this study is to identify and record the folk medicines used in Çamlıdere (Ankara) as well as to contribute to the preservation of this precious lore. For this purpose field trips were organized to Çamlıdere. A total of 79 taxa belonging to 66 genera and 33 families were recorded for the treatment of various disorders. The most represented families were Asteraceae, Lamiaceae, and Rosaceae, respectively. Respiratory tract diseases were the principal reasons for using folk medicines. We assessed the combined effects of elevated CO2 and nutrients on the metabolism of a benthic community dominated by the seagrass Cymodocea nodosa (Ucria) Ascherson in a mesocosm experiment. C. Nodosa plants and their associated community were exposed to two CO2 levels simulating future (700 ppm, pH 7.84) and current (360 ppm, pH 8.12) conditions, and two nutrient levels (enriched and ambient concentration) in a total of four treatments (-C-N, -C+N, +C-N, +C+N). The species from the genus Ganoderma are known to be extremely important macrofungi in fundamental biological, medicinal, and socioeconomic aspects. The present communication describes the brief morphological description, macro- and microscopic details, and chemical constituents of the representatives of five species of Ganoderma mushroom collected from different sites in Vietnamese National Parks. These species were Ganoderma colossus, G. Neojaponicum, G. Cattienensis, G. Lucidum, and G. Applanatum. Three additional herbarium strains of Ganoderma from European and Siberian regions have been implemented in the present framework for the purposes of comparison. Sacc.; Geopyxis vulcanalis (Peck) Sacc.; Humaria aurantia (Clem.) Häffner, Benkert and Krisai; Kotlabaea deformis (P. Karst.) Svrcek; Pulvinula johannis Lantieri; Pyronema domesticum (Sowerby) Sacc.; Scutellinia trechispora (Berk. and Broome) Lambotte; Smardaea planchonis (Dunal ex Boud.) Korf and W.Y. New Or Additional Cladoniicolous Fungi For Turkey, Mustafa Kocakaya, Mehmet Gökhan Halici, Raquel Pino Bodas

This study reports twelve species of cladoniicolous fungi from Turkey. Nine of these taxa, i.e. Abrothallus cladoniae R.Sant. And D.Hawksw., Epicladonia stenospora (Harm.) D.Hawksw., Lichenosticta alcicornaria (Linds.) D.Hawksw., Lichenoconium aeruginosum Diederich, M.Brand, van den Boom and Lawrey, Phoma foliaceiphila Diederich, Kocourk. And Etayo, Scutula cladoniicola Alstrup and D.Hawksw., Sphaerellothecium cladoniicola E.S. Hansen and Alstrup, Syzygospora bachmannii Diederich and M.S.Christ., and Taeniolella beschiana Diederich, are new records for Turkey. A key to these 12 species of lichenicolous fungi on Cladonia species is provided.

In this study the epiphytic bryophyte flora and vegetation of the Bucak Sweetgum Forest Nature Park and Karacaören Dams Environment (Burdur, Turkey) were investigated between 2012 and 2013. We identified 221 bryophyte specimens collected from tree trunks; a total of 37 bryophyte taxa (8 liverworts and 29 mosses) belonging to 19 genera and 15 families were identified. Molecular analyses of ITS nrDNA, using 42 new and 56 GenBank sequences, revealed 12 supported lineages of Athallia consistent with phenotype data. We regard these lineages as species. Eight of them were previously recognized as species in Athallia, and here we make three new combinations: A. Baltistanica, A. Brachyspora, and A. Necator. Eight of these species have been recorded in Turkey; of them, A. Baltistanica and A. Saxifragarum are new to the country. The former is also new to Greece. Natural and anthropogenic habitats differed greatly in terms of soil nutrients. Soil at the anthropogenic sites contained significantly lower concentrations of nitrogen (N) than those at the natural sites. Seeds of Epipactis helleborine were sampled from these two contrasting growth habitats and their size and nutrient composition were recorded. The 8 populations of E. Helleborine were different in seed and embryo volumes, but there were no significant differences in seed width.
