Euphorbia amygdaloides L. subsp. robbiae (Turrill) Stace was first collected by Mrs Mary Anne Robb. She collected a wild growing Euphorbia L. specimen in 1891 from an unknown locality near İstanbul, and carried this plant in a bonnet box to England. Since 1891, this well-known cultivated plant has not been collected from any wild locality. This paper reports the wild specimens from İstanbul with morphological detail. We also present the composite image illustrations of the specimen, and images of the type specimen. Allium giganteum Regel (Liliaceae), Grammosciadium scabridum Boiss., and Ferulago angulata (Schlecht.) Boiss. subsp. carduchorum (Boiss. & Hausskn.) D.F.Chamb. (Apiaceae) are reported as new records for the Turkish flora. They have been identified using the collected specimens and Flora Iranica. The taxa's diagnostic characters, habitats, photos, and a distribution map of the new records in Turkey are given.

The genus Loranthus L. (Loranthaceae) is represented in Iran by 2 species: Loranthus europaeus Jacq. and L. grewingkii Boiss. & Buhse; the latter species is endemic to the area of Flora Iranica. The plants of Loranthus are hemiparasites growing on various host trees such as Quercus infectoria Oliv., Acer monspessulanum L., and Armeniaca vulgaris Lam. In order to investigate the range of morphological variation in different populations of these species, an inclusive gross morphological and micromorphological study was conducted. One More Allium Species For The Turkish Flora: Allium Saxatile, Fatma Neri̇man Özhatay, Mi̇ne Koçyi̇ği̇t, Emi̇ne Akalin Uruşak

Allium saxatile M.Bieb. was collected from the north-western corner of European Turkey (Demirköy, Kırklareli) during the field survey of the "Yıldız Mountain Biosphere Project". It has been reported as a new record for the Turkish flora. A description based on the collected specimens, photographs of its habitat and flowering plants, map of the distribution area, and its karyotype are given.

The biology and ecology of Orchis galilaea Schltr., a species endemic to Lebanon, Palestine, and Jordan, is poorly studied, a fact that hinders present and future management and conservation efforts concerning this species. In this paper, we report findings of a field investigation that assessed the impact of altitude, population density, and plant size on the reproductive success of O. galilaea. The results revealed that plant size and population density were significantly correlated with reproductive success while altitude was not. The aim of the present study was to determine the antioxidant system responses of a xerophytic plant to salinity and drought, which were not elucidated before. Physiological and antioxidant responses of the xerophytic plant Gypsophila aucheri Boiss. were investigated under salinity (100 and 300 mM NaCl) and drought (withholding watering) treatment for 2 weeks in a controlled growth chamber. Besides growth responses (relative growth rate (RGR)), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POX), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), and glutathione reductase (GR) activities, and SOD and CAT isoenzymes activities were determined under stress conditions. Drought stress is one of the most important yield-reducing factors in crop production. Sunflower, an oilseed crop, is severely affected by abiotic stress. In this study, 2 sunflower cultivars (Musala and Aydın) were evaluated in terms of various biochemical and physiological responses under 2 different polyethylene glycol-mediated drought stress conditions. Stress-determining parameters such as malondialdehyde (MDA), hydrogen peroxide (H_{2}O_{2}), and proline contents were determined. Both cultivars showed similar responses at osmotic potentials of both -0.4 and -0.8 MPa. Aydın was less affected than Musala under these stress conditions. Seasonal Variations In Phytoplankton Communities In Zayandeh-Rood Dam Lake (Isfahan, Iran), Masoumeh Shams, Saeed Afsharzadeh, Tahi̇r Atici

Variations in the phytoplankton of Zayandeh-Rood Dam Lake were studied seasonally from September 2005 to August 2006 at 4 different stations. A total of 112 species and 53 genera belonging to 6 divisions were identified. The species belonging to Bacillariophyta, Chlorophyta, Cyanophyta, Euglenophyta, and Dinophyta were found frequently. Chrysophyta species were found in low numbers. Cyclotella meneghinina Kütz., a centric diatom, was the dominant species at all stations. The density of the phytoplankton was between 470 and 150,470 cells/cm^3. According to the Shannon-Weaver Index, the highest and the lowest diversities were determined in November and May, respectively. Regarding physico-chemical analysis …

Micromorphological and anatomical traits in relation to physiological characteristics were studied in the leaves of 4 mulberry (Morus sp.) cultivars (V_1, TR_{10}, S_{34}, and Mysore local) by scanning electron microscope. The results revealed that leaf thickness was lowest (124.42 ± 2.21 µm) in the TR_{10} genotype and highest in V_1 (263.77 ± 5.17 µm). Cultivar S_{34} ranked second in respect to leaf thickness (203.57 ± 1.98 µm), followed by Mysore local (127.94 ± 2.19 µm). Some physicochemical variables and climatic effects on the succession of a diatom community in the plankton of the pelagic zone of Lake Hazar, an alkaline soda lake, were investigated. Monthly diatom samples were collected from the surface water at western, central, and eastern pelagic areas of the ellipsoid-shaped lake using a plankton net from November 2004 to October 2005. When high temperature and pH levels prevailed in May and September, Epithemia, Rhopalodia, Cocconeis, and Cyclotella were dominant. Macrofungi Of Nakhchivan (Azerbaijan) Autonomous Republic, Hami̇de Seyi̇dova, Elşad Hüseyi̇n

In this article, an attempt has been made to establish the species composition of the macrofungi of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. A total of 73 species of macromycetes were registered, 2 belonging to the division Ascomycota and 71 to the division Basidiomycota. The trophic structure for the fungal species is as follows: 22 lignicolous and 51 terricolous. Fifty-three species were added to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic mycobiota; 8 species of them were added to the mycobiota of Azerbaijan as new records.

Samples were collected from different habitats (plankton, epipelon, epiphyton, and epilithon) at 20 stations situated on rivers and dam systems in the Tigris Basin between December 2004 and November 2005. Twenty-five new records were identified for the Turkish freshwater algae. They belong to the following divisions: 3 to Cyanobacteria, 1 to Rhodophya, 1 to Euglenozoa, 2 to Myzozoa, 1 to Ochrophyta, 9 to Chlorophyta, and 8 to Charophyta.

In this taxonomic study, myxomycetes of Tayfur Sökmen Campus (Hatay) were collected during 2010-2011. As a result of field and laboratory studies we reported 44 species of protosteliomycetes and myxomycetes. Three of these species (Diderma deplanatum Fr., Didymium megalosporum Berk & M.A.Curtis, and Lamproderma atrosporum Meyl.) are recorded for the first time from Turkey. Lamproderma atrosporum was treated with the moist chamber cultures method in the laboratory but Didymium megalosporum and Diderma deplanatum were determined naturally. The distribution, habitat, and collection numbers of the identified species are given.

Eryngium babadaghensis G.Ecevit-Genç, E.Akalın & A.Wörz sp. nova (Apiaceae, Saniculoideae) is described as a new species from the Babadağ (Fethiye-Muğla) in south-west Turkey. The new species is closely related to E. kotschyi Boiss., which is endemic to Turkey. A Latin diagnosis; taxonomic descriptions; photos of the holotype, fruit, and transverse sections of the basal leaves, peduncles, and fruits; and scanning electron microscope (SEM) images of the calyx and surface of the scales on the mericarp of the new species are presented. Primula × uzungolensis Terzioğlu & Coşkunçelebi, a natural hybrid from north-eastern Anatolia, is described and illustrated with its parents. Based on its morphology and molecular characteristics, we conclude that P. × uzungolensis is a new natural hybrid between P. acaulis (L.) Hill subsp. rubra (Sm.) Greuter & Burdet and P. veris L. subsp. columnae (Ten.) Maire & Petitmengin. Maximum parsimony (MP) analysis based on nuclear ribosomal DNA (nrDNA) and chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) shows that P. veris subsp. columnae is the maternal parent of the putative hybrid, and the hybridisation between P. veris subsp. columnae and P. acaulis subsp. rubra is …

Phenolic compounds function as stress indicators because they accumulate to high levels in many plant tissues in response to a wide range of biotic and abiotic signals. These compounds are involved in pollen development, pollination, pollen germination, and pollen tube growth. Peduncle anatomy was investigated in 20 species of Onobrychis Miller sect. Heliobrychis Bunge from Iran by light microscopy. Ten quantitative and qualitative characters were studied in the peduncle cross sections. Results showed that qualitative characters represent considerable variations within the section, some of which such as outline shape of the peduncle cross section, density of papillae on hair surface, and position of cavities in peduncles are taxonomically important characters to differ annual species from perennials in the section. Salt stress is an important environmental stress. Plants cope with salt stress with different strategies. In this study the effects of 2 different arbuscular mycorrhiza species (Glomus mosseae and G. intraradices) on some biochemical parameters in pepper plants (Capsicum annuum L. cv. Cumaovası) exposed to long term salt stress were studied. It was found that mycorrhizal inoculation increased RWC, P, total chlorophyll, and carotenoid content of pepper plants during salt application. Lectotypification Of Symphytum Anatolicum (Boraginaceae), Burcu Tarikahya Hacioğlu, Sadik Eri̇k

Symphytum anatolicum Boiss. is an endemic species in the Flora of Turkey and the East Aegean Islands. It was first collected by d'Urville on the island of Cos in 1820 and named Symphytum asperrimum d'Urv. The plant was again collected by Boissier near İzmir (Smyrna) in 1842, and described by him as S. anatolicum in 1844. There are 4 collections mentioned in the protologue in Boissier's Flora Orientalis (1879). The herbarium specimen "Hab. in umbrosis montium circa Smyrnam", housed in G-Boiss. Herbarium, was chosen as lectotype as it best represents the species description.

Macrofungi Distribution Of Cocakdere Valley (Arslanköy, Mersin), Hasan Hüseyi̇n Doğan, Si̇nan Aktaş, Celaleddi̇n Öztürk, Giyasetti̇n Kaşik

The present study reports on species of macrofungi collected from 2002 to 2005 in Cocakdere valley in the central Taurus mountains. This area is protected and is one of the important plant areas in Turkey. In the field and during laboratory studies 186 taxa belonging 2 divisions and 44 families were identified. Among them, 6 families and 10 species belong to Ascomycota, and 38 families and 186 species belong to Basidiomycota. Moreover, 4 taxa-Cortinarius aureifolius, Inocybe hygrophorus, Ramaria suecica, and Scytinostroma portentosum -were found in the Turkish mycobiota for the first time.

The current conservation status of the Salvia L. (sage) taxa of the family Lamiaceae distributed in the East, South-East, Central, North Anatolian, and Marmara geographic regions of Turkey was reassessed at regional, national, and global levels using IUCN Red List categories and criteria. In accordance with the present taxonomic revision of the genus since 2005, the study area seems to cover 79 taxa, 36 of which are endemic and 4 of which are rare nonendemic; the remaining 39 taxa are widely distributed. This paper provides a description of a new species of Rugaspermum D.D.Pant & Basu, R. minuta Bhowmik & Parveen, from the Nidpur Triassic beds. The dispersed seeds were recovered after macerating large chunks of shale in hydrofluoric acid. The structurally preserved compressed seed is platyspermic, orthotropus, and oval- to barrel-shaped with a short beak-like micropyle. The surfaces of the seeds are wrinkled and there is a wide lateral ridge running from the apex to the base on both the obverse and reverse sides. The taxa are described and illustrated. Geographical distributions of the taxa are also mapped, and IUCN threat categories of the populations are discussed.

Ludwigia L. (Onagraceae) species are known to be invasive in most parts of the world, serving as a threat to native plant species and blocking navigational channels. In Africa, they block waterways and are serious weeds in wet fields, most especially in rice paddies. Diatoms are an important group of aquatic ecosystems. To date, there have been many important algological studies in different river basins in Turkey. The epiphytic diversity of lichens associated with Quercus cerris L. and Quercus frainetto Ten. were investigated in 21 localities of the Marmara region. A total of 106 taxa belonging to 49 genera were reported on Q. cerris and Q. frainetto, and 16 of those taxa were recorded for the first time in the Marmara region. The number of lichen species found on Q. cerris was 83, while 85 taxa were found on Q. frainetto. Twelve different methods were compared for storage of a newly isolated mushroom strain, Schizophyllum commune Fr. The fungal strain was stored in different media [sterile distilled water (SDW), glycerol (15%) or media including trehalose], in different forms (mycelium-colonised wheat seeds, mycelium-colonised agar plugs) and at different temperatures (+4, +20, -20 °C). The fungal culture was checked periodically for its viability and biological activity for up to 1 year.
