The Correlation Between Commerce And Management, Rochelle Dean 2015 Liberty University

The Correlation Between Commerce And Management, Rochelle Dean

Other Graduate Scholarship

This paper proposes to explore the correlation between Commerce and Management as I give a better insight on the role of Management and the effects it has globally. Commerce should be properly managed as a commercial activity that enhances the standard of living within a nation that will increase its standing in the world. When commerce is allowed to run unregulated as it has, large businesses and major conglomerates can become immune to failure making them too powerful which levies negative externalities on citizens as well as globally to the benefit of business owners. Broadly speaking, nations should be concerned …

A Humanitarian Logistics Framework For The Philippines: The Case Of Typhoon Haiyan, Kirshna Loquinte, Isabella Militante, Fatima Rakim, Brian Gozun

Center for Business Research and Development

Logistics being used for humanitarian operations is known as humanitarian logistics. It is defined by Thomas (2003) as the process of planning, implementing and controlling the efficient, cost-effective flow and storage of goods and materials, as well as related information, from the point of origin to the point of consumption for the purpose of alleviating the suffering of vulnerable people. Logistics in the humanitarian aspect is vital; it plays a critical role during disaster relief operations. It bridges the gaps between the different stages of the operations. It is also crucial because the success and the time duration of the …

Assessing The Emphasis On Information Security In The Systems Analysis And Design Course, William David Salisbury, Thomas W. Ferratt, Donald E. Wynn

MIS/OM/DS Faculty Publications

Due to several recent highly publicized information breaches, information security has gained a higher profile. Hence, it is reasonable to expect that information security would receive an equally significant emphasis in the education of future systems professionals. A variety of security standards that various entities (e.g., NIST, COSO, ISACA-COBIT, ISO) have put forth emphasize the importance of information security from the very beginning of the system development lifecycle (SDLC) to avoid significant redesign in later phases. To determine the emphasis on security in typical systems analysis and design (SA&D) courses, we examine (1) to what extent security is emphasized in …

Creating Organizational Community: The Role Of New Employee Onboarding Practices Acrl Poster 2015, Bruce Keisling, Melissa Laning

Bruce L. Keisling

Our study was designed to explore the onboarding experiences of new academic librarians.    Past research tells us that the initial employment period is a crucial time for learning how to be successful in a new organization, establishing professional standing and identity, and for creating organizational engagement.  Given the distinct nature and importance of this employment period, we believe it is strategically valuable to optimize the onboarding experience of new academic librarians.  It is our belief that investments in onboarding will enhance new employees’ performance, create commitment to organizational goals and build organizational capacity.

A Content Analysis Of Sustainability Dimensions In Annual Reports, Sayed MR. Afjei 2015 Florida International University

A Content Analysis Of Sustainability Dimensions In Annual Reports, Sayed Mr. Afjei

FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This study examines the triple bottom line of sustainability, in the context of both profit-oriented and non-profit oriented organizations. Sustainability is a compound result of interaction between economic, environmental, and social dimensions. Sustainability cannot be achieved without balance between all three dimensions, which has implications for measuring sustainability and prioritizing goals. This study demonstrates a method for measuring organizational sustainability achievement in these three dimensions of sustainability.

Content analysis of the annual reports of corporations from the United States, Continental Europe (and Scandinavia), and Asia reveals that the economic dimension remains the preeminent aspect, and corporations still have a long …

Lawyers And Fools: Lawyer-Directors In Public Corporations, Lubomir P. Litov, Simone M. Sepe, Charles K. Whitehead 2015 University of Arizona

Lawyers And Fools: Lawyer-Directors In Public Corporations, Lubomir P. Litov, Simone M. Sepe, Charles K. Whitehead

Charles K Whitehead

The accepted wisdom—that a lawyer who becomes a corporate director has a fool for a client—is outdated. The benefits of lawyer-directors in today’s world significantly outweigh the costs. Beyond monitoring, they help manage litigation and regulation, as well as structure compensation to align CEO and shareholder interests. The results have been an average 9.5% increase in firm value and an almost doubling in the percentage of public companies with lawyer-directors. This Article is the first to analyze the rise of lawyer-directors. It makes a variety of other empirical contributions, each of which is statistically significant and large in magnitude. First, …
