In lieu of an abstract, below is the essay's first paragraph.

Book Review: Girldrive: Criss-Crossing America, Redefining Feminism, Melanie Springer Mock 2010 George Fox University

Book Review: Girldrive: Criss-Crossing America, Redefining Feminism, Melanie Springer Mock

Faculty Publications - Department of English

Excerpt: "This tension—between the romantic ideal of the road trip and its inability to meet high expectations— is clearly evident in Girldrive: Criss-Crossing America, Redefining Feminism, by Nona Willis Aronowitz and Emma Bee Bernstein. While the book’s concept is appealing, its content challenging and insightful, I felt an air of sadness throughout Girldrive; and this road trip to “redefine feminism” was, at its heart, disappointing."

Parallel Adolescents, Tricia Windowmaker 2010 University of Central Florida

Parallel Adolescents, Tricia Windowmaker

HIM 1990-2015

The general intent of my thesis is to write two novellas that show the differences in ways of life in two completely dissimilar states, and the conflicts that occurred therein. Therefore, the novellas will include a variation in gender, setting, and conflict. The main characters will be roughly the same age, but I will explore how the setting they live in has affected conflicts they have to deal with. I will explore writing these two novellas in the category of young adult fiction, as well as, first person narration for a close psychic distance.

The setting is 1950s northern California, in country where, from the right height, one can see Mt. Shasta in one direction, Mt. Lassen in the other. It is a region of small, insular towns, and although it is a familiar hunting ground for the Reverend and his buddies, not everyone there welcomes black hunters. Father and son both shoulder their pride, and a racial confrontation seems inevitable.

Among the lessons young Satch learns is the sometime advantage of …
