สภาวะความไม่ยุติธรรมภายใต้กระแสระบบทุนนิยม : การสะสมทุนด้วยการปล้นชิง, รัชดาพร ธรรมไหว

สารนิพนธ์ชิ้นนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ของการศึกษา คือ เพื่อศึกษาแนวคิดการสะสมทุนเบื้องต้น แนวคิดการสะสมทุนด้วยการปล้นชิง และแนวคิดทุนนิยมทางการเงิน และเพื่อเปรียบเทียบการสะสมทุนผ่านการปล้นชิงของระบบทุนนิยม ระหว่างทุนนิยมอุตสาหกรรม และทุนนิยมทางการเงิน โดยใช้วิธีการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพที่เน้นการวิเคราะห์จากเอกสารชั้นรอง ผ่านกรอบแนวคิดการะสมทุนเบื้องต้น และแนวคิดการสะสมทุนด้วยการปล้นชิง ผลการศึกษา พบว่า ในยุคเริ่มแรกของทุนนิยมอย่างในยุคทุนนิยมอุตสาหกรรม การสะสมทุนเบื้องต้นเกิดขึ้นจากการแย่งชิงทรัพยากร เช่น การยึดครองที่ดิน การขูดรีดแรงงาน เป็นต้น แต่ในยุคปัจจุบัน การสะสมทุนมีความสลับซับซ้อนมากขึ้น โดยเฉพาะทุนนิยมทางการเงิน การสะสมทุนมีหลากหลายรูปแบบ ซึ่งไม่เพียงแต่การขูดรีดแรงงานทางกายภาพเท่านั้น แต่ได้แปรเปลี่ยนเป็นลักษณะของการเก็งกำไร การสร้างหนี้ การแปรรูปทรัพย์สินสาธารณะ การใช้ทรัพย์สินทางปัญญา เป็นต้น โดยไม่ต้องผ่านการผลิตหรือแรงงานอย่างชัดเจน จึงทำให้ผู้เขียนได้ข้อค้นพบวิธีการสะสมทุนผ่านการปล้นชิงว่าได้แปรเปลี่ยนไปเรื่อย ๆ ตามบริบทโลก โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งในยุคทุนนิยมดิจิทัล กลไก และวิธีการสะสมทุนสามารถทำได้อย่างแยบยลจนกลืนไปกับชีวิตประจำวันโดยไม่รู้ตัว ภาพลักษณ์เทคโนโลยี แพลตฟอร์มดิจิทัลถูกผลิตมาเพื่ออำนวยความสะดวก แต่เบื้องหลังได้ปล้นชิงแร่ธาตุหายากอย่างมหาศาล และปล้นชิงความเป็นมนุษย์ในการกดขี่ข่มเหงแรงงานในประเทศยากจน อีกทั้งยังถูกนำมาใช้เป็นเครื่องมือเพื่อหลอกหลวงมนุษย์ด้วยกันเอง จึงเป็นสิ่งสะท้อนว่า ไม่ว่าการสะสมทุนในยุคใดก็ตาม ก็ยังทิ้งความไม่ยุติธรรมแก่คนส่วนใหญ่อยู่เสมอ ซึ่งอนาคตการสะสมทุนก็คงกลายพันธุ์ไปเรื่อย ๆ และดูเหมือนว่าความไม่ยุติธรรมยังคงแฝงอยู่ในระบบทุนนิยมที่ดูเหมือนจะพัฒนาไปอย่างไร้ที่ติ

While many scholars have examined the rhetoric of President Donald Trump and Adolf Hitler individually, there is a void of scholarly work that highlights the similarities between the two leaders’ use of grandiloquent language to stoke the passions of their perspective nations. In the past one hundred years, rhetoric and propaganda have been employed to push political agendas that are divisive and dangerous. What factors explain the increasingly confrontational posture between Beijing and Manila since 2022? To what extent will the geopolitical tension transcend into a great-power hot war? This study aims to address these questions through a suggested framework involving the lens of structural, misperception and domestic theories to account for the factors contributing to the spiral of crisis. Location, Location, Location: Geographic Qualities Of Political Instability And Military Coups, William O'Connell

Previous research has shown that political instability can lead to military coups, especially when it occurs close to the capital. However, other than proximity to the capital, no other geographic qualities of instability and their relationship to coups have been explored. Therefore, this dissertation serves as a detailed analysis of how the location of instability conditions its impact on coups.

To show how the locational qualities of instability influence coup likelihood, I borrow from expected utility models of coups, and explore how instability influences militaries’ disposition and ability to coup differently when it occurs in different areas within a country. …

Diving into the complex dynamics of income inequality, this dissertation studies the multifaceted relationships between democracy, economic development, and inequality, placing a spotlight on the mediating influence of Relative Political Capacity (RPC). Uncovering the pivotal role of RPC as democracies advance and economies progress, this research navigates the contours of income inequality. By dissecting distinct sub-samples of OECD and non-OECD countries, nuanced insights surface. This paper aims to determine what factors account for different levels of state commitment to protections for women refugees. Existing literature suggests a connection between states’ concern for gender equality and ethical treatment of women, and their commitment towards the protection of women refugees. This project examines how European leaders of autocratic and democratic nations engage with masculinity discourses in their public speeches. Do authoritarian leaders use masculinity in a different way than democratic leaders? I answer this question by completing a critical discourse analysis of speeches from Vladimir Putin, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Boris Johnson, and Emmanuel Macron, the leaders of Russia, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and France, respectively. The speeches were publicized from July 2019 to September 2022, when all four leaders were simultaneously in office. In 2019, Angola changed its penal code. One notable change was the state's elimination of its previous colonial law that outlawed "vices against nature." With this elimination, nonheteronormative relationships had become legal in the state. Considering Angola’s status as a semi-authoritarian state that did not seem to be close to making progress on LGBTQIA+ reform, it was puzzling to see such a significant reform that occurred so quickly.
