INTRODUCTION: Focal mechanical vibration (FMV) uses mechanical vibration to stimulate specific muscles or areas of the body. The reported benefits include increased muscle strength, decreased pain, improved range of motion (ROM), and enhanced muscle coordination. When FMV is applied, it stimulates muscle fibers and sensory receptors in the muscle and tendon, which facilitates cyclical rapid muscle contraction and relaxation. When the muscle spindle is stimulated, a vibratory-induced inhibition can occur, which is frequency and amplitude-dependent, causing a reduction in muscle activity which may lead to improvements in joint mobility. Objective: The benefits of lower body positive pressure treadmills have recently been investigated as a tool for rehabilitation, but research is lacking on whether participants can regulate exercise utilizing rate of perceived exertion (RPE) at reduced body weight loads on lower body positive pressure (LBPP) treadmills. Altered postural control in the trunk/hip musculature is a characteristic of multiple neurological and musculoskeletal conditions. Previously it was not possible to determine if altered cortical and subcortical sensorimotor brain activation underlies impairments in postural control. This study used a novel fMRI-compatible paradigm to identify the brain activation associated with postural control in the trunk and hip musculature. Background During voluntary limb movement, feedforward postural activation of the trunk and hip musculature occurs to maintain postural stability. This is called an anticipatory postural adjustment (APA). Onset of trunk muscle APAs is delayed in symptomatic individuals with persistent low back pain (LBP). It is not clear how spatial APA organization is affected, or if adaptations in APAs persist between symptomatic episodes. Idiopathic toe walking (ITW) is a gait disorder where children’s initial contacts show limited or no heel touch during the gait cycle. Toe walking can lead to poor balance, increased risk of falling or tripping, leg pain, and stunted growth in children. Introduction: Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programs are making efforts to recruit underrepresented minorities (URMs) to create a more diverse workforce. Understanding the reapplication process may contribute to more URMs reapplying. The purposes of this study were to examine URM and non-URM DPT program reapplicants, and to identify factors that predicted acceptance or rejection when reapplying to DPT programs.
Review of Literature: Current literature exists regarding the difference between minorities and non-minorities when applying to physical therapy and medical education programs. However, the literature regarding reapplication to DPT programs is nonexistent.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the interrater reliability of the most recent Functional Movement Screen (FMS), between four second-year physical therapy students. The most recent FMS has added the ankle clearing test (pain and mobility categories) after the inline lunge and modified the rotary stability movement pattern and criteria for scoring. To our knowledge, there has not been a reliability study completed with the most recent additions and modifications of the FMS.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to gain perspective on how physical therapy clinical instructors (CI) define entry-level in relation to the field of physical therapy. The research question asked CIs was whether or not there was a difference in how CIs defined entry-level physical therapists. Entry level is defined as “a student who is capable of functioning without guidance or supervision while managing simple or complex conditions, with proficiency in skilled examinations, interventions, and clinical reasoning, and is able to maintain 100% of a full-time therapist’s caseload in a cost-effective manner.”

OBJECTIVES: To characterize comparator groups (CGs) in ICU-based studies of physical rehabilitation (PR), including the type, content, and reporting.
DATA SOURCES: We followed a five-stage scoping review methodology, searching five databases from inception to June 30, 2022. Study selection and data extraction were completed independently, in duplicate.
