Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Sit to stand (STS) is the basic mobility related to the quality of life. Older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) have a movement pattern change in motor function. Moreover, the dual task can interfere with cognitive ability, leading to reduced motor performance. However, there was a lack of evidence of movement time, kinematics, and kinetics while performing STS tasks. This study aims to evaluate the STS ability in older adults with and without MCI while performing in single and dual conditions. This study was cross-sectional. Seventy older adults (35 older adults with MCI and 35 controls) participated in this …

Theses
Introduction
The development of scarring is a normal physiological response during burn wound healing for any except the most trivial of injuries. Burn scarring can cause considerable functional and psychological anguish in burn survivors. Prolonged wound healing has been shown to affect scarring outcomes. Superficial cutaneous wound injuries carry a risk of scarring and altered pigmentation after the wound has healed. The primary aim of this study was to explore the effects of topical silicone on the rate of wound healing in superficial wounds. Secondary aims included investigation of scar and pain outcomes.
Methods

Dissertations and Theses
The process of transitioning from high school to higher education and from academic programs outside of the health sciences to the workplace is documented; however, the transitional experiences of those in the health professions and occupational therapy specifically are less understood. This dissertation research aimed to identify the formal accommodations and informal adaptations occupational therapy students and entry-level practitioners have employed to address their mental health needs as they transition from the classroom to fieldwork or capstone and entry-level practice. The link between empirical literature, theories surrounding transitions, and the Occupational Adaptation Model provided the foundation for this research. This …

Sexual activity plays an essential role in many individuals' lives, but some people are unable to participate in the activity as they would like to due to many underlying causes. Issues with sexuality are commonly underdiagnosed and overlooked, given the social stigmas that make individuals feel ashamed and embarrassed to discuss it with their medical providers. As of 2019, "sexual dysfunction is estimated to be around 30-50% in the general population” (Verbeek & Hayward, 2019). This number continues to rise; therefore, education must be provided to these individuals to receive appropriate care and treatment. Sexual health is typically only addressed …

Students with disabilities enrolled in post-secondary institutions are increasing in numbers so that students develop the skills needed to achieve a career and live independently. Barriers at the collegiate level include difficulties communicating their concerns with the faculty, lack of mentorship from their advisors, and having no prior knowledge about student organizations/services. Students also experienced daily stressors due to the physical demands of their classroom environment, the pressures of socialization, and the want of acceptance (Hong, 2015). Research by Love (2016) observed the barriers that prevent students with disabilities from engaging in leisure and social activities. The barriers included physical …

According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, veterans represent one fourth of the entire homeless population, which is approximately 200,000 individuals each night (NCH, 2009). Within Arkansas, it is estimated that more than 500 are homeless throughout the state (Jared, 2021). These veterans are 50% more likely to become homeless than other Americans due to poverty, shortage of affordable housing, lack of social support networks, a number of stress-related conditions, substance abuse, and the disadvantage of their military occupation and training not being transferable when competing for employment in the civilian workforce (VA Office of Inspector General, 2012). Unfortunately, …
