Until the age of eighteen, parents of children of all ages initiate, schedule, and accompany their children to see their pediatrician for virtually all appointments. Over time, children and their parents develop a special bond with their pediatrician and too frequently, this relationship becomes abruptly severed as their teen turns eighteen years old and is thrust into adult medicine. Research suggests pre-pregnancy obesity is associated with an increased risk of macrosomia in the newborn. Since women are expected to gain weight during pregnancy, the standard recommendation of weight loss for obesity is not ideal for this population. In this systematic review of the literature regarding interventions for maternal obesity to reduce fetal macrosomia, 149 articles were screened using three different databases to identify recent randomized controlled trials related to this topic. A total of 11 full text articles were analyzed and included in the review. The articles addressed nutritional, lifestyle, and pharmacological interventions. Adolescent risk-taking behaviors contribute significant risk to the current and future health of adolescent patients and have a significant annual cost to society. A primary care practice in western Michigan had no standardized practice related to the screening, evaluation, and response to adolescent-risk taking behaviors. As a result, only three of the fourteen providers were consistently following national guidelines for screening, evaluating, and responding to adolescent risk-taking barriers. PURPOSE: With the increased survival rates in pediatric cancer, these patients are exhibiting new possible long-term side effects, such as delays in cognitive and social-emotional development. The purpose of this research study is to assess the cognitive and social-emotional developmental outcomes of pediatric cancer survivors who currently receive chemotherapy or have received chemotherapy in the past.

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in pediatric onset of type II diabetes. This paper will examine elements contributing to this trend. Type II diabetes will be discussed, including related pathophysiology, manifestations, diagnosis, and complications, with differentiation between adult and pediatric onset. Possible prevention and treatment methods appropriate for pediatric patients will also be discussed, along with possible outcomes in pediatric patients that could result from this disease. Background: Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a virus that can infect both males and females, potentially causing genital warts, vaginal, cervical, anal, and vulvar cancers. According to CDC guidelines, the HPV vaccine can be given to boys and girls age 9 to 26 (CDC, 2017). Although cases of HPV have dropped as the number of HPV vaccinations rise, vaccine rates are still far below the Health People 2020 target of 80% coverage. Journal of Nursing & Interprofessional Leadership in Quality & Safety

A meta-analysis of 10 randomized control studies published in 2003-2013 was conducted to provide a summary of the effects of exercise interventions on obese adolescents. Outcomes of the reviewed trials included body mass index, weight, glucose, and triglycerides. Data were combined using an inverse variance weighted random effects model. The effect size estimate for BMI was 1.354 kg/m² (p < 0.001, SE 0.321), indicating that the BMI of individuals in treatment groups improved, as compared to control groups. A statistically significant reduction in weight was greater in the intervention groups than the control groups by 3.815 kg (p = 0.001, SE 1.101). The findings of this meta-analysis show that exercise interventions may improve control of weight and BMI and in turn be a factor in decreasing obesity.
