Annual Evaluation Of The Student's Perception Of The Value Of Writing Goals, Renee Kuess

Focus: This study focused on pharmacy students’ perception of the value of writing goals and how this perception changes as students progress in the program.

Methods: Annually, all students in the pharmacy program are required to reflect on the previous year’s goals and develop new goals. Following this assignment, a survey was sent out to a random sample (n=162) of students. Based on the feedback, the response was classified as indicating “value” or “no value”.

Results: Of the 162 surveys sent out, there were 78 completed responses. 56.25% of responses indicated the student found “value” in the assignment. The data …

Although there is a recognized and unmet need for such faculty, the topic of pharmacy academia is sparsely addressed in pharmacy programs. The purpose of this project was to create a model for a sustainable student pro bono clinic with a clear mission and vision that aligned with that of the occupational therapy (OT) profession. This project consisted of interviewing founding members of similar programs, conducting an indirect needs assessment, and performing a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis of current pro bono clinic operations at the University of St. Augustine College for Health Sciences (USAHS). The reasons for sex inequity in medicine are complex and partly interface ethnic background, specialty choice, and practice location. Multiple factors influence career choices including cultural values, balancing family responsibilities with professional growth, and career mentoring and support. Over the last 40 years, the Sophie Davis/CUNY School of Medicine (CSOM) has pursued a mission to increase diversity in medicine at the same time in which it has fostered the importance of primary care and service in underserved areas of New York State. BACKGROUND: While the Association of American Medical Colleges encourages medical schools to incorporate quality improvement and patient safety (QI/PS) into their curriculum, medical students continue to have limited QI/PS exposure. To prepare medical students for careers that involve QI/PS, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement chapter at an allopathic medical school and school of allied health professions initiated self-directed learning by offering student-led workshops to equip learners with skills to improve the quality and safety of healthcare processes.

INTRODUCTION: The ideal of evidence-based medicine includes the integration of clinical experience and patient values with research evidence. We introduce clinical decision science, a new framework that includes patient social context to demonstrate this integration, which has been absent from evidence-based medicine sources. METHODS: This is an observational study comparing published articles within the domains of clinical decision science and evidence-based medicine. In a standardized manner, investigators identified and counted instances of social interaction within the publications. Introduction: Training medical students in the policy topics of healthcare economics, delivery systems, disparities, and reform helps to prepare them for the growing role of advocacy in medicine. We used a near-peer educational model to create an elective to advance learners’ policy knowledge and advocacy skills, while simultaneously offering student directors hands-on experience in educational program development.

Methods: The 4-week elective for fourth year medical students included weekly readings, policy seminars, advocacy workshops, and journal clubs. This systematic review is an update and expansion to the population and methods of a previous systematic review concerning spiritual and religious interventions for the well-being of terminally ill adults. After expanding the criteria to incorporate a more diverse population and including non-randomized experimental studies that contained relatively few concerns of bias, the results of the review are inconclusive due to insufficient data. The lack of usable data in the field highlights the ethical and theoretical issues with the use of experimental trials in analyzing the efficacy of spiritual and religious interventions.
