While physicians are aware of the inequalities that exists in healthcare, not all physicians feel adequately able to address such concerns. • Our aim was to evaluate the variables involved in room turnover and identify any delays that lead to the time difference found between inpatient and outpatient rooms.
• We planned to design an intervention to improve efficiency in the endoscopy suite and complete more inpatient cases.
• We predicted that completion of more inpatient cases would subsequently decrease the need for cancellation and rescheduling of medically necessary cases on a daily basis.

Health care providers are consistently unaware of the implications, efficacy, and resources correlated with medical cannabis and cannabidiol. Thus, patients are uninformed about medical cannabis as a treatment option for their qualifying conditions. Informative educational sessions present a method to facilitate specialty knowledge development regarding medical cannabis and cannabidiol. In this scholarly project, six nurse practitioners and two allied staff members, attended a PowerPoint presentation followed by an open discussion regarding cannabinoids. Children with velocardiofacial syndrome (VCFS) have a variety of complex needs. Research shows that VCFS is characterized by a combination of medical problems, developmental delays, and learning disabilities, which vary from child to child. This syndrome also puts adolescents at a higher risk for developing psychiatric and psychotic disorders. The complexity of symptoms that can arise from VCFS can influence the ability of these children to communicate, socialize, and learn effectively. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends less than 2 hours per day of recreational screen time, yet the national average is between 7 to 9 hours per day for adolescents. The final portfolio contains 5 research articles from national and international journals. The study designs included in this portfolio are one small-scale RTC, one retrospective pretest posttest design, and three case studies. The studies included help answer our PICO question and help draw conclusions about how to care for adults with radial nerve palsy in regards to splinting. Three of the articles compared static splinting and dynamic splinting in regards to improvements in hand function. Two of the articles focused on dynamic splinting as a means of treatment for adults with radial nerve palsy.

Master of Occupational Therapy Student Critically Appraised Topics

This project aims to appraise evidence of the effectiveness of infant massage for increasing social-emotional bonding. In our research, we focused on two studies considered Level I evidence and three studies considered Level II evidence. Study designs include quasi-experimental and randomized controlled trials. Strong evidence supports that infant massage increases social-emotional bonding and attachment. Based on the evidence, implementation varied from once per day for 10 minutes to 2-3 times per day for 15 minutes. It is recommended to use infant massage in an acute care setting and in the home to increase social-emotional bonding and attachment.

Falls cause greater than 600,000 deaths per year and are the most common injury in people over 65 years of age. Fall prevention in the acute care setting has been identified as key goal in the most recent JCAHO review process. Falls on an intermediary care unit lead to an increased rate of morbidity, delayed discharge, and excess cost expenditure.

Even with appropriate evidence-based tools in place, Hospital A’s intermediate care unit, recorded an increased rate of falls; the highest rate in its health care system. An investigation identified factors contributing …
