Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA) is a team approach to problem solving in which a group or team interacts with horses to accomplish various tasks. The horses are not ridden but instead worked in an open setting to allow reflection and understanding between team members. EAGALA has been used in multiple settings, such as, combatting compassion fatigue in community care workers. Research poster describing the following project: Supply caregivers that attended the Caring for Clients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) workshop with a care package. This care package provided tools and resources to help relieve stress and ease the burden that caregivers may be experiencing by promoting self care. Fifteen packages were distributed after the facilitation of an all day workshop on November 16, 2019. Each recipient was sent home with a survey that was to be sent back a month later to provide feedback about the contents.

Research poster documenting the following project: Long Creek Youth Development Center offers a variety of activities, an education, mentorship, and structure for Bearings House residents. In addition to those programs, we hoped through building a relationship with residents we could identify their occupational interests and assist in their transition to life in the community. We strived to support residents through their transition to Bearings House and give them an opportunity to further explore their interests as well as expose them to new occupations they may have not previously participated in order to help as they reintegrate into the community.

Caring for stroke patients diagnosed with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and transient ischemic attack (TIA) at Veterans Health Administration (VHA) acute care hospitals is a very complex process that centers on accurate documentation. Inaccurate or missing documentation leads to patient safety issues, lower quality care, and inaccurate Veteran Equitable Resource Allocation (VERA) classification for reimbursement. The high prevalence of performing arts injuries is an acknowledged challenge facing the performing arts medicine community. The injuries seem to affect string players the most among orchestral musicians, specifically violinists and violists. The asymmetrical posture, head and neck displacement, and spinal displacement required by the posture to play violin and viola can lead to discomfort or injury in the performer. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease affecting all age groups and can manifest in various forms, often making the initial or successive presentations difficult to diagnose. Peritonitis secondary to lupus is a rare manifestation of this disease and the prevalence is said to be much lower in children. We present a case report of an adolescent male with a known history of lupus who presented to the emergency department with a clinical picture consistent with an acute surgical abdomen and underwent an appendectomy. Subsequent workup identified the culprit as a lupus-related peritonitis requiring corticosteroids for resolution.

PubMed indexing, journal readership, scope, focus, impact factor, fees and acceptable manuscript types are discussed in the first section. The remainder of this article focuses on manuscript preparation, submission and review, including formatting, pre-submission inquiry, submission portals, and the manuscript review process. Specific recommendations are provided to assist the reader in navigating these stages.

As the podiatric profession strives for professional and financial parity with allopathic and osteopathic colleagues, podiatric medical education has been transformed at both undergraduate and graduate levels to more closely align in important ways. The purpose of this program evaluation is to share the benefits of including a women’s health rotation into the required graduate medical training curriculum, share the initial experience of the first resident cohort receiving this training, and provide ideas to other programs that may be interested in providing similar program implementation for their residents.

Obesity is a growing epidemic that continues to garner attention throughout healthcare. The goal of this study was to review the literature on physician bias and stigmas surrounding obesity to assess the current state of research on connections between obesity-related stigma and the health outcomes and care of patients with obesity. A specific search string was used to obtain articles via PubMed and psychINFO, yielding 14 studies found that investigate these connections. The studies were categorized into three distinct pathways leading from physician stigma and biases to differing health outcomes of patients with obesity. Introduction: While providers in collaborative care have been challenged to respond to rising patient complaints about attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adulthood, institutional guidance has been lacking or insufficient. To address this issue, an Adult ADHD Toolkit was created to be used by providers spanning primary care and psychiatry. This article reviews how the toolkit was developed, its contents, and future directions.

Methods: A workgroup of providers from different backgrounds devised materials for the toolkit by reviewing adult ADHD literature and clinical consensus.

Introduction: The Maine Medical Center Preble Street Learning Collaborative (PSLC) aims to couple medical education with addressing the unmet healthcare needs of those experiencing homelessness in Portland, Maine. The PSLC provides low-barrier medical, psychiatric, dental, and case management services to all-comers and is co-located near many of the city’s social services. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of the PSLC in its first 19 months by describing demographic characteristics and patterns in hospital utilization of patients served by the PSLC.

Background

In the United States, 20,000 women of childbearing age have a spinal cord injury (SCI). While SCI induces transient amenorrhea immediately after injury, women generally have normal reproductive function after SCI, and their fertility is unimpaired. Medications that commonly manage complications of SCI should be avoided or discontinued during pregnancy. Complications inherent to SCI, including urologic issues, are often exacerbated during pregnancy.

Introduction
Many Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) residency programs utilize “home call” systems for nighttime coverage of inpatient services. In this system, trainees are expected to work at full capacity the following day after taking nocturnal call. While “on call,” trainees receive both urgent and non-urgent pages throughout the night, which disrupt sleep. To mitigate fatigue, improve hand-offs and improve timing of patient care, this study targeted reducing non-urgent overnight pages from nurses to home call PM&R residents between 11pm to 6am.
