Teacher Hiring: The Disconnect Between Research Based Best Practice And Processes Used By School Principals, Laurie Kimbrel

Student success is dependent on teacher quality; therefore, it is imperative that principals hire the teachers most likely to experience success as measured by the impact on student outcomes. This study investigated teacher hiring processes to determine the extent to which practices that are supported by selection science and teacher quality research are utilized by school principals. Data were gathered using a survey e-mailed to principals in ten states in the southern and western regions of the United States. Analysis indicated that principals do not use consistent processes and vary the hiring approach based on their opinion of conditions. Principals …

The intention of this study is to investigate the transparency of information on university websites regarding the policies in place related to leave and/or tenure clock extensions for child-related events such as childbirth, adoption, or placement of a foster child. The main purpose is to improve awareness about the policies existing in academia related to these events. The secondary purpose is to determine whether major institutional characteristics affect the family-friendly policies of these institutions. This article reports the results of an academic program evaluation in which standardized admission test scores are compared to intermediate and final program outcomes. We used two intermediate program measures of progress-first semester nursing grades and performance on a standardized exit exam prior to graduation. Program final outcomes compared are student attrition and graduate nurses’ performance on the NCLEX-RN. The analysis resulted in identifying statistically significant relationships between entrance exam scores and first semester grades. Statistically significant relationships were seen between entrance exam scores and performance on a pre-graduation exit exam. The reduction of nurse burnout has shown to have an increase in patient satisfaction and quality of care. It also has shown a decrease in patient-related or sentinel events. Accordingly, with the reduction of nurse burnout, there has also been a reduction of compassion fatigue. This project has illuminated the benefits of acuity-based caseload at the micro-level, including the cost-effective nature of overtime pay, including HCHAPS benefit score. The method of obtaining, planning, and implementing was based on the Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA), which required collaboration amongst multiple disciplines, groups, departments, and executives. This study investigates the potential impact of the Bundled Payments for Care Improvement (BPCI) initiative from Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services on hospital performance and behavior related to effectiveness and efficiency. The BPCI is under the Affordable Care Act and provides hospitals with a fixed amount of reimbursement for a total episode of care. Building on the agency theory, I argue that the BPCI initiative has the potential to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of hospital care. Objectives: The purposes of this study were to determine whether the sepsis screening tool increased the usage of sepsis order set and whether the tool improved the primary outcomes. This study assessed the association between using sepsis order set and the compliance of the SEP-1 measure (represented by achieving total perfect care), and the primary outcomes. Telehealth has proven to be a growing sector providing on-demand health services for consumers. A long history of development and refinement precede what we now know as telehealth technology. Access to telehealth technology has become widely available changing the landscape of healthcare. However, does that mean that consumers desire to use the technology? How does a factor such as health status play a role in the consumers’ willingness to encounter a provider using telehealth as the method for delivery of care? This research project aims to compare self-selected health status to consumers’ willingness to engage with telehealth services.

This has resulted in poor health outcomes and chronic access barriers. Residents of Mississippi ranks poorly in most health indicators, including Infectious Disease, Infant Mortality, Clinic Care, Obesity, Diabetes, and Premature Death.
