This study uses a qualitative approach to address limitations and blockages to current plastics reduction via semi-structured interviews with zero waste business practitioners in India. Although they are nascent, India is home to a budding zero waste community that is grappling with how to reduce plastics—via trial and error—and these stakeholders hold insights from lived experience on how plastic reduction can actualize in the Indian subcontinent. This research involved interviewing zero waste businesses and consultants and makers of plastic alternatives in India to understand their experiences with plastic reduction strategies. This report draws on extensive research in urban planning best practices to propose strategies that promote economic revitalization, housing sustainability, community health, and environmental resilience. In the United States (US), low-density, non-contiguous development, termed sprawl, has long been of widespread concern. Since the 1970s, rural residential sprawl, or exurban sprawl, has grown faster than any other development pattern. Exurban sprawl is development beyond the urban/suburban fringe with ties to the urban environment, such as employment and consumption, rather than to rural economies. Exurban sprawl is highly consumptive of land and has implications for conservation, natural resource management, agriculture, and communities. This research presents a review of related literature on the barriers to homeownership for low- to moderate-income families, as well as the benefits of HEC programs. Through surveying participants in the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville Southwood program in Charlottesville, Virginia, the study assesses the impact of HEC on securing and preparing homebuyers for successful homeownership. Development policies targeting young people and African agriculture tend to focus on their abandonment of the sector and the need to attract new generations to agricultural activities through its commercialization. This paper points to potential gaps in such interventions by investigating the diverse mobilities, aspirations, and engagements of young people in farming, through a qualitative case study in rural northern Ghana. Our study also challenges the prevalent assumption of African farmers’ movements from rural to rural areas, from rural to urban areas, and out of farming altogether, as we found evidence of young people migrating from urban to rural areas. …

Based on extended Indonesia’s Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) 2015 and using the micro-simulation method, this study shows how sectoral growth affects income inequality and poverty in Indonesia and the contribution of the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) manufacturing sector in reducing income inequality. Of the 24 sectors in Indonesia, only the growth in 10 sectors can reduce income inequality, with the largest reduction being growth in other agricultural crop sector. On the other hand, SMEs have no notable effect on reducing income inequality. Although the impact depends on which sector the SME is in. This study also shows that growth …

The population data in the 2022 annual report tables were compiled by the Population Research Center, Portland State University, 4/15/2023.

The tables in this workbook present the 2022 population estimates produced by the Population Research Center, Portland State University. The July 1 estimates of total population for counties and cities and towns were certified December 15, 2022.

Some tables include the U.S. Census Bureau's decennial Census counts and historical population estimates produced by our Center, and other tables include calculations of change since Census 2020. Also included are population estimates for broad age groups and 5-year age groups.

Urban neighborhoods with locations of environmental contamination, known as brownfields, impact entire neighborhoods, but corrective environmental remedial action on brownfields is often tracked on an individual property basis, neglecting the larger neighborhood-level impact. This study addresses this impact by examining spatial differences between brownfields with unmitigated environmental concerns (open site) and sites that are considered fully mitigated or closed in urban neighborhoods (closed site) on the US census tract scale in Wayne County, MI. Michigan’s Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s leaking underground storage tank (LUST) database provided brownfield information for Wayne County. After the global financial crisis, Asian banks shifted funding from core to non-core liabilities. This study examines the impact of NCL on bank lending channels in Indonesia. Analyzing data from 95 banks during 2010-2019, the study finds that loose monetary policy significantly boosts loan growth, while tight policy curbs it across all banks. Higher non-core liabilities weaken lending channels, except for domestic banks. This underscores the central bank's role in using macroprudential tools to manage optimal NCL levels for banks, especially amidst financial innovations and business developments affecting future bank funding access.

Areas of intense urbanization, with a high percentage of impervious surface, reduce the size and quality of pollinator habitat and negatively impact pollinators.
