This study was conducted to examine the effects of positive specific feedback and positive general feedback on the bowling scores of subjects enrolled in two beginning bowling classes. Experimental groups were formed from two intact bowling classes, and a group of fifteen volunteers who made up the control group. The PSF group which contained twenty-eight subjects, was provided with positive specific feedback throughout the course of the study. The PGF group which contained thirty-five subjects, was provided with positive general feedback throughout the course of the study. The purpose of the study discussed in this thesis was to compile adapted physical education assessment instrument information into a matrix which matches test categories with parameters appropriate to the selection of a specific assessment instrument. From this matrix, a data base software program was developed. Use of the data base software program and thesis will enable the adapted physical educator to select a proper assessment instrument.

The purpose of this study was to describe the different components of the pre-season conditioning program of men's basketball programs at selected NCAA Division I universities in the United States. The universities chosen for this study included the top 100 ranked teams in the final 1988 Dunkel computer basketball rankings. The average won-loss record of the participating universities in this study for the 1988 season was 23-10.

A questionnaire was constructed that included sections on general background information, conditioning and running components, strength conditioning components, and flexibility conditioning components. This questionnaire was used as the tool for collecting data. Of …

The problem of the study addressed knee injuries in college football. Imbalance of the musculature surrounding the knee would predispose the athlete to knee injury. Recognition of those who have muscular deficiencies would be a primary way of preventing knee injuries. The focus of the study was to determine if there was a significant difference in peak isokinetic torque of knee flexor and extensor muscles across speeds (60 degrees/second, 180 degrees/ second and 300 degrees/second) of a college football team subsequent to participation in a spring football season.

This study was conducted to examine the effects of internal imagery and experiential state on the performance of intercollegiate smallbore rifle shooters. An interaction between internal imagery and experiential state was hypothesized. Subjects included 43 smallbore rifle shooters from 7 universities stratified into 2 groups. Group 1, composed of 23 shooters, received internal imagery instructions and practice time; group 2 received unrelated instructions and an equal amount of practice time. Following the instructional period, a posttest was administered to each group (the NRA/ISU Style 1/2 course on an indoor 50 foot range) and each shooter completed an experiential state measure. …

The purpose of this study was to investigate the current status of intramural sports programs at four year American colleges and universities. Intramural Directors from 329 institutions were randomly selected from the 1984 National Intramural Recreational Sports Association Directory to complete and return a thirteen item questionnaire.

A computerized statistical procedure, SPSS, was used in the statistical analysis. The results were analyzed through the use of comparisons, and percentages. The data were acquired from questionnaires returned by 185 of the Intramural Directors selected.

Atherosclerosis is a disease of the arteries and is defined as a form of arteriosclerosis in which fatty lesions called atheromatous plaques form on the intima of arteries. The formation of these plaques begins early, within the first two decades of life, and may be started by damage to the endothelial cells and intima of the artery walls (Guyton, 1981). A number of factors may cause the initial damage, including physical abrasion of the endothelium, abnormal substances in the blood or pulsating arterial pressure on the vessel wall (Guyton, 1981).

The purpose of the study was to identify the specific kinematic and kinetic variables associated with a successful fast ball, drop ball, and rise ball using the windmill style softball delivery. The subjects chosen for the investigation were female pitchers who participated in the Women's National Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament held in Buffalo, New York from August 17, 1984 to August 24, 1984.

This study was undertaken to investigate the importance of various characteristics possessed by volunteer Hunter Education Instructors, as perceived by two study populations. The populations of volunteer Hunter Education Instructors in Kentucky and Hunter Safety Coordinators in the United States and Canada were asked to rate the importance of thirty-five given characteristics. Respondents were also requested to list any characteristics perceived as important that were not included in the battery of given characteristics.
