Saint Patrick's Way: A North-South Camino, Anto Kerins

The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Leo Varadkar, TD, has set up a review of tourism policy and requested submissions from stakeholders (see Appendix 1 and 2). This submission proposes that the government should encourage the planning, design and development of a North-South Saint Patrick Way pilgrim walk, similar to the Camino in Spain, in partnership with the relevant Northern Ireland authorities. This development will make an important impact in economic and tourism terms, but also in other ways. The School of Hospitality Management and Tourism at the Technological University Dublin (DIT) developed this best practice framework for managing work placement, using the tourism industry as a case study. However, the DIT‐PEP (Placement Experience Partnership) Framework has been devised so that it can be applied across other sectors.

This report presents the DIT‐PEP Framework and provides a summary of the approach used in its development.

Educating For Sustainability: Creating A Comprehensive, Coherent And Compelling Approach - Guidelines For Sustainability Standards And Resource Materials, Kevin Griffin

In 2007, Fáilte Ireland's Environment Unit, in collaboration with the Education Policy Section,commissioned a review of sustainability content in tourism education and training programmes at NQAI levels 4-8 throughout the State with a view to recommending improvements where necessary.

The review, carried out on Fáilte Ireland's behalf by the Tourism Research Centre of the Technological University Dublin, was - in terms of breadth and depth - the first of its kind to be undertaken at a national level, not only in Ireland but in any of the other countries surveyed during the course of the review.
