Malacca was indeed a unique Islamic civilization in the Malay Archipelago that dominated the region from 1400 to 1511. Malay, Portuguese, and British historiography records the greatness of this civilization, its civilizational impact in the region, and its fame that spread well beyond its frontiers. Nonetheless this civilization fell in the year 15 l I at the hands of the Portuguese imperialists. This dissertation is a research about ihya Ramadan (revival of the spirit of Ramadan) especially through solat terawih (The Ramadan prayer) hold around Kota Bharu districts, Kelantan. It focuses on the government role specifically the Kelantan state government concerning the implementation and practices of Ibadah during Ramadan and also the issues surrounding rites and rituals of solat terawih among Kelantanese society.
