China has the largest elderly population in the world. At present, the older population aged 60 and above is close to 145 million while US had about 46 million people aged 60 or older (U.S. Census Bureau 2001). The older population in China made up about 10.2 percent of the total, with an annual growth of 3%. It is projected that by the middle of this century the figure will reach 400 million. Promoting productive and successful aging has gradually become a main concern for society at large, in particular, public policy makers, gerontologists and social workers in ageing societies. In Hong Kong, the population aged 60 years and above has increased from 745,500 (13% of the total population) in 1991 to 1,004,400 (14.8%) in 2001 (Census & Statistics Department 2005). HOPE worldwide (HWW) has been a chartered charity organization in Hong Kong since 1993, with its focus on organizing service programmes in China and Hong Kong. Volunteers for Seniors Day (formerly Hope for Seniors Day) is one of the many programmes initiated by HWW to meet the urgent needs of the growing ageing population in Hong Kong. Starting in 1996, volunteers from corporations and social organizations have been recruited for Volunteers for Seniors Days on an annual basis. Background:

To extend the successful experience learnt from the Golden Organic Farming Programme in Tsuen Wan organized by Produce Green Foundation in 2004, a new farming programme entitled “Happy Farming” has been launched in Tuen Mun. A plot of land was leased to Good Tiding Church of Christian National’s Evangelism Commission in Lai Wai Tuen Mun (屯門泥圍佳音福音堂) by the Government. Hong Kong has been experiencing demographic ageing with an increasing number of older population and prolonged life expectancy. Older persons, like all members of any society, have the right to be free from mistreatment at family care and residential care. Furthermore, older persons are the special collectiveness, different from children or other adults, so elder abuse or neglect is a more complicated issue. The purpose of the present study is first to examine the relationship between organizational strategies and job stress, taking the assumption that personal control will mediate the underlying organizational strategies-job stress connection, and then to develop stress copings by recombining management with regard to their impact on personal control. Further, the role of educational level and types of jobs on job stress will also be examined.
