Public Policy In Connecticut: Challenges And Perspectives, Gary L. Rose Ed.
Public Policy In Connecticut: Challenges And Perspectives, Gary L. Rose Ed.
Sacred Heart University Press Books
Public Policy in Connecticut examines ten of the key policy challenges that currently confront Connecticut lawmakers. Following an overview essay by the editor, discussing the recent transfer of power to state governments and outlining the policy challenges faced by lawmakers, each of these challenges is taken up in a separate essay by the volume's contributors. Adoption In The U.S.: The Emergence Of A Social Movement, Frances A. Dellacava, Norma Kolko Phillips, Madeline H. Engel
The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare

Implications of the adoption movement for the helping professions are discussed, as is its impact on increasing cultural and racial diversity in …

The Harringtons Of Salem: A Study Of Massachusetts Politics, Richard A. Hogarty
New England Journal of Public Policy
Politics inevitably runs in families. Notable among those who have shaped the political landscape of Massachusetts are the Harringtons of the city of Salem.Over the course of five generations, they produced several talented Irish-American politicians who played a major role in state politics and rose to prominent positions of power in the Democratic party. This article centers on the lives and careers of Joseph Harrington and his son Michael, both of whom ran for Congress some twenty-eight years apart. Its treatment of these two congressional races is detailed and insightful. Attention is also directed to the careers of Kevin Harrington …

Two incomes may be increasingly necessary to the middle class family, and an increasing number of middle class women are now supporting their children alone, but the movement speaks of freeing women fiom child care to pursue a career, an idea which does not speak to a blue collar woman concerned with getting a job to …
