Parental Edation, Family Income, And Peer Group On Children's Academic Performance In China, Chi Zhang

Previous studies have established that children from richer family backgrounds are generally observed to have higher educational outcomes than other youth. However, the mechanism through which household income affects the child’s outcomes remains unclear. Meanwhile, other studies point out that parental education and the peer effects also have influences on children’s achievement. This paper estimates the effects of parental human education, family income and peer group on children’s education performance using a data of about 300 students from primary and high schools in China which includes extensive background information at the student, parents and friend level. 我們是來自不同學系、不同年級、不同成長背景的嶺南大學學生，因參加了「和富領袖網絡系列 – 星級服務研習『嶺』袖之旅」2010-2011 而走在一起，希望透過社會服務提升個人質素，做一個具領袖魅力的「嶺南人」。

提到雲南，大部份人大概立即聯想到麗江、大理等旅遊勝地。然而，「雲南中國遠征軍追憶之旅」卻是個非一般的旅程。我們泛舟到歷史恆河的上游：到軍營步操、在松山戰場遺址留下足印、深入農村探訪抗日老戰士、到國殤墓園致祭。我們遊走於現代心靈的佇足點：大夥兒每晚擠在小小的房間裡進行反思會，以不同的觀點及角度分析歷史，從中檢討自己的處事態度，學習及改善自己的不足，甚至是生活細節及整個人生。

追憶之旅完結後，我們舉辦了「追尋歷史痕跡，憶念愛國情懷」分享會，匯報我們的考察成果。我們更自發地舉辦義賣籌款活動，重建雲南侯橋鎮一間遭受山泥傾瀉破壞的山區小學。這一切，皆是我們一眾「嶺」袖之星對是次旅程的一份反饋、承擔。

此特刊紀錄了我們一路上的成長──出發旅程前的「心動」、旅程中的「感動」、旅程後歸來的「行動」。在此，謹以此特刊向所有曾參與抗日戰爭的老戰士致敬，並向和富社會企業、嶺南大學服務研習處、中華精忠慈善基金會及粵港創新培訓人才中心為是次旅程作出的貢獻致謝。希望大家從不同的故事中感受到這段歷史的重要性，與我們一起重新關愛在世的老兵。

Elder neglect, instead of abuse, forms an obvious focus in studying changes before irreversible damages are made to the families over time to examine the family cohesion factors as well as to identify interpersonal or helping relationships among elder parents and adult children, in particular during the time of sickness when an older person requires intensive care. Such occasions reveal the impacts of family dynamic on the vulnerability of elder neglect. Modernization marked the progress of society and posed various changes to human life as well as the epidemiological transition. Improvements in public health care, living conditions, income and the control of infectious diseases were important factors in the first half of the twentieth century that led to the increases in life expectancy, while in the second half it was improvements in social conditions, health technologies such as antibiotics, and widespread immunization. The existences of advanced medical services effectively get rid of the prevalence of infectious disease that caused immediate human threats such as Measles and Smallpox.

APIAS Research Report 研究報告

中國雲南山區服務研習計劃由德勤中國(香港)和嶺南大學服務研習處共同組織開展。該計劃的主要目的之一是研究山村少數民族和社區的可持續發展情況。其中包括保護本地獨特文化，在公共教育、衛生和經濟發展方面提供必要的輔助，環境保護，以及作為社區長壽基石的可持續發展。

該計劃於2007年啟動，為期三年，至2010年結束。該三年計劃旨在研究該社區在教育、衛生和經濟方面的需求，並提供必要幫助。在2008年至2009年(計劃第二年)，該計劃與嶺南大學亞太老年研究中心合作，在該村進行健康狀況研究，涵蓋該山村社區的衛生條件和初級衛生保健體系。研究通過了解雲南省格章村村民的健康狀況，深入研究中國農村的醫療衛生水平。村民健康狀況體現該村的社會人口統計特點、環境和個人風險因素、問題應對能力以及衛生保健體系的覆蓋情況。調查結果將用於評估村民的健康需求，協助政府提供更合理的醫療衛生服務，並監督健康改善的成果。
