Enhancing Labour Productivity: Insights From Female Leadership, Training Programmes And Foreign Ownership In Service Enterprises Across Thailand, Vietnam, And Malaysia, Jie Min Low
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This study examines the demographic and socio-economic factors affecting labour productivity in service enterprises across Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia. Previous research primarily focuses on manufacturing firms, leaving a gap in understanding productivity in service firms. Given that the service sector is increasingly significant in ASEAN economies, contributing nearly half of the region's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2022, this study targets this crucial sector (Secretariat, 2023).Rapid industrialisation, ageing populations, and shrinking workforces in these countries makes it necessary for enterprises to understand how to enhance labour productivity. This research utilizes data from the World Bank's 2015 and 2016 Enterprise Surveys …

Human Capital And Gender Dynamics In Leadership: Analysis Of Labor Productivity And Technical Efficiency In Bangladesh, Indonesia, And Pakistan, Zun Pwint Bo Bo
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This study examines the impact of human capital and gender dynamics in leadership on labor productivity and technical efficiency in firms from Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Pakistan. Using data from the World Bank Enterprise Survey, the analysis uses Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression, Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), and Tobit regression techniques. The findings reveal significant variations in labor productivity and efficiency among firms in the three countries, influenced by factors such as firm characteristics, managerial experience, workforce skill composition, and gender leadership. The results indicate that higher average wages positively impact labor productivity and technical efficiency across all three countries, supporting …
Economic Convergence In The Baltic Sea Region: Migration, Institutions, And Socio-Cultural Drivers Of Labor Productivity, Elias Orbon
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This study investigates the potential facilitation of economic convergence through policy across the Baltic Sea Region from two critical perspectives: (1) an analysis of the impacts of human capital flight and forced pendular migration from Ukraine on the economies included in the study, and (2) the impact of cultural dimensions and institutional arrangements on labor productivity in firms across the region. The study uniquely contributes to understanding how economic convergence can be facilitated in the Baltic Sea Region by considering both firm-level productivity factors and the current geopolitical context. The study utilizes World Bank Enterprise Survey data from 2019 and …

In addition, the participant's marital status, sexual affiliation, religion, level of education, and geographic location will be examined.

Exploring Remote Work In Nebraska, Josie Gatti Schafer, Tara Grell
Exploring Remote Work In Nebraska, Josie Gatti Schafer, Tara Grell
Publications
Nebraska ranks 37th in the country for the rate of persons that report working from home (12%), according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey for 2021. Nebraska’s low rate of those that work from home, compared to other states, is likely a function of the work most people do in Nebraska. In Nebraska, more people work in low wage compared to high wage jobs, according to previous research from UNO CPAR. Low wage jobs, in 2021, are defined as below the median income for all workers, or approximately $41,500. “Low wage” jobs are more likely to …

According to 2021 estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, 7% of Nebraska households do not have access to a computer and 6% of Nebraska households have access to a computer but no internet. Although recent efforts suggest there is momentum and government action at both the federal and state levels to address lack of broadband (Hammel, 2023; Newman, 2023), this still leaves a considerable number of Nebraskans without access to reliable broadband in the meantime. Furthermore, broadband access is moot if Nebraskans do not have access or cannot afford technology and the cost of internet in the …

There was an increased incidence of pediatric patients who presented with injuries caused by falls not related to sports or other recreational activities, as well as for animal bites, during the early pandemic period of April 2020. Education of parents and caregivers of young children is warranted to raise awareness of the even greater potential for falls and animal bites when children are confined at home for longer than typical periods of time, as occurred with the stay-at-home government orders during the initial period of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Impact Of Economic Growth And Demographic Factors On Ecological Footprint In South And Southeast Asia Countries: A Panel Data Analysis, Firhandika Ade Santury
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The ecological footprint is a pivotal analytical tool for comprehensively examining environmental degradation. The ecological footprint provides a comprehensive measure of the impact of population consumption and production, serving as a critical benchmark for inter-regional comparisons to inform the development of effective policies. This study endeavors to analyze and compare the effects of demographic factors and economic factors on the ecological footprint in South and Southeast Asia. Additionally, the study aims to formulate policy recommendations to minimize the ecological footprint in these regions. The panel data of fourteen countries in South and Southeast Asia from 1997 to 2020 were analyzed. …

Recent analyses of transgender homicide victims find that the news media often uses improper terminology, delegitimizes, and victim blames them. These analyses, while insightful, are limited as they have largely analyzed cases involving trans women and trans feminine individuals. The present study employs a mixed-method approach to analyze news media articles (N = 88) published in U.S. online news media outlets about 17 gender non-conforming victims killed between 2012 and 2022. We found that most articles did not delegitimize or victim blame. However, we find (1) victim blaming occurred when reporting on cases of officer-involved shootings, (2) certain victims …

To Change Everything, We Need Everyone: Belonging, Equity, And Diversity In The U.S. Climate Movement, Clara Changxin Fang
Antioch University Dissertations & Theses
Climate change affects everyone but lack of racial diversity in the climate movement makes it challenging for it to be truly inclusive, champion solutions that are equitable, and affect transformative change. This dissertation describes a two-part study of diversity in the climate movement using a survey of 1,003 climate activists and interviews with 17 people of color who work or volunteer in the U.S. climate movement. The study analyzes differences between Whites and people of color in terms of their (a) demographics, (b) engagement in climate action, (c) experience of climate impacts, (d) worries, (e) challenges and barriers to participation, …

Antioch University Dissertations & Theses
The following autoethnographic dissertation examines my personal experiences of trauma, abuse, and violence. Drawing on journals, memories, and artifacts from my life, I use self-reflection to illustrate the impacts of trauma on my childhood and adulthood. My traumatic experiences of sexual abuse, childhood violence, and emotional abuse are situated within broader sociocultural contexts of masculinity, Hispanic culture, and social norms. This study illuminates possibilities for healing and transformation for myself and others with shared traumatic backgrounds. It calls for trauma-informed education, masculinity, and resiliency. Evocatively sharing my traumatic life events provides an accessible window into often silenced experiences, bearing witness …
