Challenges, Coping Strategies, And Benefits Of Animal-Assisted Crisis Response Following Disasters And Traumatic Events, Yvonne M. Eaton-Stull, Batya G. Jaffe, Kay Scott, Makenzie Shiller
People and Animals: The International Journal of Research and Practice
Animal-assisted crisis response (AACR) is an innovative intervention whereby highly trained comfort dogs offer support in the aftermath of disasters and traumatic events. This qualitative cross-sectional exploratory study investigated the experiences of specialized, experienced AACR handlers. A snowball sampling yielded 99 experienced responders who completed an anonymous electronic survey. Data was analyzed using a qualitative coding process with Atlas.ti. This study explored emotional challenges, handlers’ coping strategies, and benefits provided by the AACR comfort dog. Forty-eight percent of AACR handlers saw human-made crises as the most challenging deployments. Seventy-two percent of handlers rated their distress during a deployment a 3, …

Transforming Communities
This commentary is the personal story of Paula Vigil and common macro practice strategies implemented to pass Ashley’s Law. Ashley was the daughter of Paula and suffered from Rett Syndrome. Rett syndrome is a rare genetic neurological disorder that leads to severe impairments, affecting nearly every aspect of life. Rett particularly affects speech, purposeful hand use, and coordination, leaving individuals understanding more than they can communicate. The Diyinii Of Naachid: Diné Rhetoric As Ritual, Edward L. Karshner
The Diyinii Of Naachid: Diné Rhetoric As Ritual, Edward L. Karshner
Dialogue: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Popular Culture and Pedagogy
Rhetoric is far more than a theory of communication or the antiquated ancestor of freshman composition courses. As a system, rhetoric is the process that directs, on the one hand, individual experiences with the world and structures, and on the other, the stories cultures tell about themselves. These foundational narratives (myths) reveal a culture’s metaphysical understanding of the nature of reality, the psychological understanding of human nature, and the epistemological notion of what can be known. Using the Diné Bahané, this paper will explore Diné rhetoric as naachid, an inclusive, outward-directed communication model of problem solving which functions …

Acer-Apceiu Global Citizenship Education Monitoring Toolkit: For Teachers, Schools, And System Leaders, Rachel Parker, Amy Berry, Payal Goundar, Karena Menzie-Ballantyne
Global education monitoring
At a time of escalating global unrest and insecurity, together with increasing global interdependence, interest in Global citizenship education (GCED) as a transformative pedagogy for peace, human rights, and sustainable development, has never been greater. Educators, school leaders and policy makers can play an important role in supporting young people to gain the knowledge and skills needed to engage with the global issues of our time, which are frequently described as volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (Berinato, 2014). The APCEIU-ACER GCED Monitoring Toolkit was developed to assist education stakeholders to embed GCED within policy and practice in alignment with local, …

ROSA Research Briefs
In the past year, three governmental ministries – the Ministry of Health, Ministry of National Development, and Ministry of Transport – have jointly led Age Well SG, a national programme that seeks to support older Singaporeans in ageing well in their homes and their communities. This programme reflects the government’s priority in enabling ageing-in-place, a trend that has been increasingly welcomed by older Singaporeans. Current policies that seek to enable ageing-in-place are centred on three forms of enhancements in the environments in which older Singaporeans live, such as the implementation of Active Ageing Centres, strengthening of support for care needs, …

Peningkatan Pengetahuan Siswa Sekolah Dasar Mengenai Silat Sabeni Sebagai Usaha Pelestarian Budaya Betawi Di Tanah Abang, Isman Pratama Nasution
Bhakti: Jurnal Pengabdian Masyarakat

Pengembangan Seni Bela Diri Silat Kelabang Liar Di Klender Dalam Mendukung Pelestarian Kampung Betawi, Syahrial Syahrial
Bhakti: Jurnal Pengabdian Masyarakat

As the AI landscape continues to evolve, the need for communities to nurture, inform, and challenge these technologies becomes paramount. This panel addresses the importance of traditional and AI driven strategies in terms of community engagement. Four case studies are reviewed to show how AI technologies are being implemented in communities. While AI offers numerous benefits, it is important not to overlook the value of human interaction in building and maintaining thriving community engagement.
