This research evaluated the effectiveness of the Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) gang prevention program among elementary school children. The focus of this research is to determine if the G.R.E.A.T. program changes the attitudes and beliefs of elementary school boys and girls who live in areas that are at high risk of gang involvement and gang related crimes. This research also aims to find out which gender is most affected by the program. The sample size was 103 females and 82 males in the fourth and fifth grades. The purpose of this project was to develop a customer service survey to be used by child welfare agencies to improve both ongoing social work practice and training of new social workers. Two organizations in Southern California under contract with Children and Family Services (CFS) to serve former foster youth were contacted to recruit volunteers for the focus groups. Two focus groups of former foster youth were convened to discuss their experiences in foster care. This study provided a statistical analysis of reunifications rates and treatments offered for sexually abused children and their parents. This study consisted of computer case files in Riverside Child Protective Services of foster children who had been sexually abused and will help in further research studies conducted in Riverside County and in various surrounding counties to understand the impact of child sexual abuse. Data was collected from fifty case files using computer databases and a data extraction tool.

The study investigated Children and Family Services (CFS) workers' awareness of the importance of father-daughter attachments and the associated risks of teenage pregnancy as well as the use of such knowledge in their intake assessment process. A quantitative, cross-sectional, survey design was utilized to study 113 child welfare workers who were employed with San Bernardino County Children and Family Services in California.

The intent of this research is to determine the relationship, if any, between social worker characteristics such as age, gender, parental status, years of experience as a social worker, education level and the perception of safety and risk factors in child abuse investigations. The research study will focus on the public sector of child welfare, specifically the initial investigation period (Investigative Services program) within Riverside County Department of Public Social Services in Riverside, California. The purpose of this study is to gain understanding into the effects that juvenile offender treatment facilities have on the nurturance of protective factors leading to resilience in juvenile offenders. This research study looks into juvenile offenders self-perceptions of factors associated with resilience during an intervention program. It breaks resilience into two categories, traits shown to be associated with resilience, known as internal traits, and protective factors shown to lead to resilience, known as external traits. The goal of this study was to research the indirect effects of work-family conflict (both work-to-family and family-to-work conflict) with the predictors family organization fit, family supportive organization perceptions, and perceptions of organization benefits offered on the outcomes of organizational commitment, turnover intention, and marital tension.

This thesis centers on establishing the relationship between a parent's employment status and the impact the loss of funding from CalWORKs Stage 3 childcare funding might have on child abuse. CalWORKs Stage 3 funding was installed in 1997 as a safety net for families to receive subsidized childcare for working parents if the household is below 75% of the state median income and the children are under the age of 13 and eliminated in November 2010. The purpose of this study was to address social workers concerns associated with the loss of this funding.

Japanese regulations have aimed to monitor night care for children since 1981, when a tragic accident took the life of a child in an unauthorized child care center. Nevertheless, concerns persist about the efficacy of the care of children outside the home during the nighttime hours. This longitudinal project assessed the development and adaptation of children who had been in night care for a period of five years. Parents and child care professionals completed surveys: The former about the home environment and their own perceptions of their experience of childrearing, and the latter about the children’s development. Based on results from a synthesis review, this Executive Summary highlights elements of a proposed integrated program configuration that shows a demonstrated capacity to foster successful community adaptation for children and youth graduating from children's residential mental health programs. Social work practitioners must act every working day in the face of uncertainty. This uncertainty arises in part because knowledge is often difficult to locate or sometimes lacking regarding: the systems context the population being served; the particular client system; the set of problems the client system is experiencing; as well as the various interventions that could be selected. It seems reasonable to explore ways to reduce the experience of uncertainty, and narrow, if not eliminate, the knowledge gaps that arise in such situations.
